Hi Everybody,

I just bought a REVO yesterday. I read the book and watched the DVD, but I just can't seem to get the REVO started. Very frustrating.

I've got the tank full with 20% TRAXXAS fuel, a fully charged EZ-Start battery, fully charged REVO, and fresh batteries in the transmitter.

I plugged in the EZ-start, pushed the button in two second bursts. Turned the engine over just fine, I was just waiting for the fuel to get to the carb. Then it looked like it needed priming so I held my finger over the exhaust port for two seconds. Then the green "motor" light on the EZ-start went out. So, I pulled the glow plug, turned the REVO upside down, ran the EZ-start for a few seconds then reinstalled everything.

Now I can't get the EZ-start to engage the starter. The manual says that it's in "protection mode." I went to traxxas.com but their help only said that it could be 1. bad EZ-start battery (nope) 2. EZ-start wires loose (nope), 3. Engine flooded (I think that I cleared this), 4. Bad engine (don't know). So, I'm not sure what to do - (beside go back to my LHS).

I'd appreciate any help or ideas. Thanks. -AJ

Ok, i friend and i had the same problem. The compression on the stock engine is pretty high. Take a screw driver and push on the flywheel to turn it over. Then put your EZ Start in and spin until it starts. You will have to do the screw driver trick multiple times...

I'm pretty new at this (I had to look up where the flywheel was). You're saying rotate the flywheel with the screw driver a little to loosen it up a bit - gotcha. Should I take out the glow plug - and will that help to make the flywheel easier to turn?

yes, I had to do this yesterday to my bro's revo then rotate the flywheel til the piston seems to be at the bottom.

Ok, I guess that I can just look down at the top of the cylinder to try and guess when it's at the bottom?

yes, rotate the flywheel til you see the piston about to come back up. also smart to mark this on the flywheel with a permanent marker as you will need to know bottom dead center during break in .

You guys are AWESOME! I ran down to the basement, rotated the flywheel and that got 'er working. Turned over no problem. I even got it started. It ran for about 10 seconds then cut out. I couldn't get it going again. After a while, it would just turn over but wouldn't even fire except for a couple of quick bursts. I cleaned out the flooded engine a few times. But I can't get it to fire again. I'll try changing the glow plug and see if that helps. Could the LSN need adjusting this soon after coming out of the box?

to test the glow plug you currently have take it out of the head put the wire on it and hold the plug with some needle nose plyers and turn on the easy start and it should glow bright if not replace it.

I wouldn't mess with the settings yet, if you do remember what the factory settings are so you can take the engine back to them if you need to. I think the HSN is 4 1/2 turns out and the LSN should be flush with housing. You really shouldn't mess with the LSN until you get you HSN set anyway. You can also heat the head up with a hairdryer or heat gun to "loosen" it up a little. I would definitely start with the glow plug first.

Ok, I try and see if the glow plug is getting hot. I've seen in some pics that it really glows orange. Yesterday I tried pulling the plug and hitting the EZ-start and I got nothing - but I didn't know that it had to be grounded. I'll give that a try.

Also, I'm going to wait on adjusting anything. It's just one less variable to deal with.

Thanks again!
AJ

AJ, just plug the wire onto the GP and then with needle nose pliers hold the side of the plug against the head to ground it. Fire off the Cheesy Start and it should show a glow. On my Revo I went through a plug on break-in, but once it broke in I have yet to change a plug since.

And yes, this is a very tight motor and it likes to hydro-lock in break-in. One way to get around this is loosen the GP about a 1/4 turn, fire it up, and once running, tighten the GP back up.

Alright, I've got my marching orders for tonight. Hopefully they'll be more running of the REVO and less figuring out problems after I get this thing broken in.

What did we do before the internet? Thanks again.
