  1. Bashing
Hey there guys, I was out bashing last night, and I made this jump out of a pile of "snow" from the local hockey arena. Anyways, the second time I hit it, my maxx did a half front flip and landed right on the cooling head (I just bought it, it's a big ACNCM) and then the truck cut out. I uprighted the thing and went to start it, and the engine just went crazy! revved like it was almost wot. I plugged teh exhaust and it shut down. I dumped the tank and, well, now that I think about it, just put it at bdc and forgot the aro... oops. Anyway, I noticed the engine mount has a crack, but I am a newbie and don't know what has disconnected. I know you guys have had every problem, so I am just wondering where I should start, besides the new engine mount?

Thanks

first check your block.. if its not cracked, congradulate yourself and then check your throtle servo and linkage. take the time and look the truck over really good. a smash like that could have done alot of damage to alot of places. oh and dont get the stock engine mount again. there weak. get an aluminum finned one off ebay.

Give it a good once-over. If you've cracked the mount, replace it. Also, like beason said, look for physical damage on the engine. Then check the linkages and radio. Make sure everything is working the way it should before you attempt to start it again.

Can you recommend a mount? I am looking on ebay and the only finned one I see is a NOVA and sells for about 23 USD.

may not be stronges made but i can guarantee its stronger then the stocker. have you found any more damage?

I am at work so I haven't looked again, but that's definately one thing that broke so I figured I'd put the order in so I can get back to bashing.

Update

So the engine mount broke at 3 of the 4 screws. I pulled off the engine to notice that the metal gear attatched to the engine (not sure what that's called) had scraped a nice groove in the chassis. The gear itself looks fine. The plastic gear that turns the spur gear has a little dent in it, and the spur gear's tines are very uneven. I think I need a new spur gear. Everything else looks pretty good, any chance I wrecked my tranny in this accident? I noticed the reason it was revving high might have been because the throttle was pulled open a bit by the crash. Everything else looks to be pretty solid. My engine mount is in the mail hopefully.

Love the new look of the site too.

I dont know if i would want an engine mount that is stronger than the engine. That means the engine would break before the mount. I would at least be sticking some kind of breakable screws on there and also stick some zip ties on the top of the engine head so you dont scratch it all to hell.

"KEEP IT PRETTY January 2001
Keep it pretty A harsh tumble can ruin the look of your nitro engine's heat-sink head, and what's worse, it can bend the fins. To prevent scratches and bends, simply wrap a zip-tie through each of the four bolt holes on top with the lock-block part of the tie facing up; then cut off the excess. Now the lock-block on the zip-tie will hit the ground before your heat-sink head."

Sounds like you got lucky, last time I landed my Maxx on it's lid I broke the motor mount, rear bulk heads, and cracked the carb. I doubt if it messed with your tranny, but definitely replace the spur gear. The thing that dug into the chassis was most probably the fly wheel, it's the shinny part right behind the gear on the motor, and the gear on the engine is called a clutch bell. Just to let you know, the only thing that changes once you gain a little experience is you know how bad the damage is right away LOL Your owners manual is your best friend when your starting out.

Would one of those roll bars or cages I've seen for the Maxx help at all in this case?

Yes, anything that prevents the head from hitting the ground would have helped.

Thanks

I've seen them around just didn't know if they're worth the extra cash and if they would have helped this guy in his crash.

imo the are worth every penny, i have one on my savage & i love it

but dont expect the cage to look pretty after a high upside down landing, you WILL bend the cage. but it will protect the rest of the truck ...& when you bend it up, you can remove it & straiten it out

& if you get it always run it with a body on
