I got a new tmaxx 3.3 today from hobby town USA

I can't get it to run at all. It will idle a little and then die out, also as soon as I touch the gas it will die out.

I took it back to hobby town and he took the plug out and used a glow plug I think it was called, along with my EZ starter and he got it running and I got to drive it around the parking lot for a little.

Then when I took it to the park it done the same thing again. What am I doing wrong?

at the top of the nitro section in the forum there are several stickies. Read all of them especially the tuning one and u should find your answer and many more to come.

is it brand new ? have you done the proper break in for the motor?

Yes it's brand new. I can't get it to run to do a break in. The guy at hobby town drove it for like 2 minutes at the store, he told me to use 1/4 throttle for 2 secs, then let off, repeat until a tank of gas is almost gone, then continue with more steps until 5 tanks

But after he ran it at the store I can't get it to run at all. except for when I leave the EZ start in and hold down the button it will idle, but when I take it out it will just die out.

Gas was shooting out of the exhaust pretty bad when it was ideling, I'm not sure if that's common or not. I took the air filter off and it had gas down in the base of it

Thank you I'll read those.

sounds like your HSN needle settings are rich ! read the stickies and follow them. when making tuning adjustments make small changes to your HSN. sounds like it might be to rich, if it's spitting fuel. check your to see if your engine is flooded !

I went and cleared the engine of flooding. Took it outside and tried to start it again, it will idle for a little bit with the ez start in it and the button being held down.

I still can't find the stickies that you guys are talking about lol. The only one I see is a picture stickie.

Heres a link to the page the stickies are on.

Thanks! I wont be addicted for long if I can't get this running lol. Feel like I spent $500 on a paper weight

Haha. When you get it going you will love it and want to buy more.

Here's a video. I adjusted the top screw a little clockwise. It's idling a littler better and not shooting fuel out. But it will only idle for about 10 seconds

I tuned it some this morning and finally got it running. It was great, just didn't seem that fast.

So I took it to the shop and they said my transmission (I think) bolt was loose, he tightened it and WOW what an improvment, I didn't even know it had second gear.

I used it for about 30 minutes and accidentally ran into some tall grass and broke the drive terrain in between the back wheel A arms, I took it to them and they said they've never seen one actually break the metal part. So I spent 4 hours taking the car apart and $40, but I finally got it fixed.

I also have a gas leak, I think it's coming from the glow plug and some where around the outside of the engine, any suggestions?

check to see that you have the copper gasket on the glow plug. you said that you ran it for 30 mins, did you get all 5 tanks of break in done?

Go get yourself a glow plug ignitor and use it instead of depending on the easy start. During your engine break in, your carb settings are putting a lot of fuel in there and almost flooding the engine and keeping your glow plug real wet. Your engine needs to be running well to keep the element in the glow plug hot enough and sometimes you need to provide external power to the plug for 5 to 10 seconds for it to get hot enough to burn on it's own. I use the easy start system but I use an ignitor with it.

I have an ignitor, I got tired of the EZ start not working that great lol.

Sorta kinda, I tried to do the first few steps and it would keep dying out at 1/4 throttle, so I would just goose it around. I've ran about 9 tanks through it right now. I drove it last night and it's running amazing after I fixed the broken part.

i only ask because following proper break in is critical to the life and overall performance of your motor. the reason being, the piston and sleeve need to heat up and cool to allow for a good seat of the two. rushing this, may shorten the life and compression of your motor. it's easy to rush through this because the joy and excitement takes over and you just want to run the truck and see what it will do ! (been there done that LOL!) glad to hear you got it running !!! as a fellow Tmaxx owner you will have a blast ! enjoy your new rig !
