Hi, I just bought a t-maxx 2.5. As per the instructions, it says to turn off the truck you have to pinch off the fuel line with the provided clip.

When I do this it takes about 15 seconds to stop and starts to rev very high before finally turning off.

Does this seem right ? There must be an easier way to turn it off. What if I put a switch on the wire connecting to the glow plug, would that work in turning it off ?

Thanks

-Matthew

It revs high because it is momentarily making the engine run lean. This will hurt your engine after a while.

The safest way to stop a nitro engine is to physically stop the flywheel with the handle of a screwdriver. If you don't feel like doing that, then you can plug the exhaust with a finger until it stalls. This won't hurt the engine but it will push extra fuel into the engine meaning it could rust if you don't use after run oil.

It will not hurt the flywheel as long as you use a plastic or rubber handled screwdriver. If you push against the flywheel with a short jab, there will be minimal rubbing against the screwdriver. If you go slow and let the handle rub then it will cause damage to the handle on the screwdriver and might get plastic shavings on the truck, but won't actually harm the truck or engine.

A bump start is a starter box. It's a box with a motorized wheel that contacts the flywheel of the engine to start it.

No, that wire is only there to heat the glow plug while the easy start is being used. You can take it off while it is running, and it won't do anything.

The fuel line pinching method works, but when breaking in the engine, it is so rich that it takes a lot longer to burn all of that fuel. If the flywheel is accessable, the screwdriver handle would be best.

Covering the exhaust seems a little less violent then using a screw driver handle. Why wouldn't ya have after run oil? As long as your truck doesn't sit for a long time(like a month), then just shut it off by covering the exhaust hole and put the motor at bottom-dead-center. To do this, with the engine cool, take the glow plug out, use something that won't damage the piston(I like straws) to find where the piston is all the way down. Mark your flywheel with a little paint or a marker as a reference point and put the engine there every time you shut it off. Pinch the line to shut it off and use after run when your going to put it up for a while.
