Question, Today I purchased a Hitec HS-5945mg 13sec servo with a Kimbro servo-saver for my Savage 25. I ran it threw about 1 tank of gas and it quit steering...

So I took it apart to find to find that the "servo horn?" the piece that fits over the servo and into the servo saver was stripped. It has a male and female side, the male side going into the servo-saver and female side going over the actual servo. Top of servo being metal and female side of horn plastic, the part that stripped. There was no damage to the male adapter that went inside of the servo-saver.

Is this normal? Any suggestions? Running an MX-3 radio..

Also, I thought I read in a thread where you can take the extra Steering servo and use it for your throttle, that the stock steering servo was a better servo than the stock throttle servo?

Thanks,
C.

Sounds like your servo saver did its job and stripped instead of killing the servo. As far as switching the steering servo for the throttle, I would just keep the old servo out of the truck as a back up because next time your steeing servo might go instead of the saver.

Are you talking about the small plastic adapter that goes in to the saver and over the gear on the servo? The kimbrough servo saver should have come with three different sizes, make sure you used the right one, if you use the wrong size it will strip very easily.

NC, That's correct there were three sizes and the lhs was not clear on which one to use so I went based on what was explained. I am hoping that by trial and error I will find the right one.. the first one seem to fit snug.

Thanks,
C.

Any input on that spacific servo?

The three adapters are for three flavors of servo manufacturer. The plastic frame that those three adapters came attached to should have had three little tabs (one across from each adapter). On those tabs should have been a single letter that identified which adapter would go on which flavor of servo. There should be one labeled: F = Futaba, H = HiTec, and A = Airtronics. The one with the "H" next to it is the one you should be/have been using.

I experianced a very similiar problem with a high-tech servo?A customer service rep. told me all HIGH-TECH servos were 23 spline,A 23 spline is real loose on the servo?whats up?

Not too certain as to what you are getting at, Joneser.

H=Hightech didnt work!:shrug:

Really? Wow. If the H adapter did not work for you on the HiTec servo, all I can think of is perhaps it was not tightened down all the way prior to use. Or it loosened itself up during use. Aside from that, perhaps you got a bad adapter. I don't rightly know. I have been using Kimbrough servo savers and HiTec servos for some time now, and have never experienced what has been described here.

good point Sky, Thought about that, and contemplated using lock tite on the screw into the servo, but thought later would pose a problem, any thoughts?

Loctite is a little overkill, but if you are worried about the screw backing out...go for it. Just make certain to use the blue loctite. It would be bad to not be able to back the screw out when you needed to.
