Hey guys, i just got my savage today!!
Its beautiful.
Is there anything i should be considering to get, i dont want to hop it up, but i just want to drive it. Is there anthing that i may want to get, maybe a spare spur gear, etc??

sweet, get prepared for some serious fun!
From my savage experience so far, a few spare spur gears will defiantly come in handy. Maybe some extra dog bones(heavy duty/CVD, don't burn money into stock dogbones as they will get bent very easy.), and some hex nut hinge pins. A screw kit can't hurt either. If you don't have spare glow plugs, you will def. need some of those too. I would also do at least the spider mod that ImBroken posted the link to, after that I would do the linkage mod and the mp servo saver mod. have fun!!

Once your gear mesh and slipper clutch is set correctly, you shouldn't be replacing your spurs very often.

sweets right, i gone through one spur gear when i got my savage and thats becuz i put in a picco .26

some people go through several quickly and for some people it lasts for a long time. but for a $3.00 part, I would rather have at least one back up -- then to be stuck without one, that's worth $3.00 to me.

I burnt up 2 spurs when I first got my savage 25. I haven't had to replace the 3rd yet. I put in the wasp .26 -- my stock bevels went before that 3rd spur. I think the screws on the diff backed out a little bit. I did the spider mod after those went and it does help out a lot.

The point is not the $3 for the spur, if you don't have your gear mesh and slipper clutch set up properly, you'll be breaking more than just spurs. When you land, all of the parts of the transmission , diffs, they all take a large shock. That slipper pad is part of what saves your drive-line from breaking apart. Not trying to start a fight with you wig, just want to help the new guy make sure he has his truck set up correctly.

Def do the 4 spider mod ASAP, use the new HPI kit which gives you the better screws. If you wait too long, you will probably need new diff cups also.

What I would do is this:

-First do the 4-Spider Mod right away. It'll save you from a lot of stress later on down the road.

-Next, the MP Servo Saver Mod is no longer needed. There are 2 servo savers made to fit the savage one seen here http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXJAA9&P=7 and the other at www.hpiracing.com under new stuff. (It also shows up on the front page) The HPI one only costs 18$ and works like a charm on my savage. No "Mod" here, these ones fit in perfectly. They make a huge difference. For the HPI one you'll have to order it right from their site. You can also get the 4-Spider Mod stuff on HPI's site as well.

Good luck and have fun!

The stock pipe is trash. Mine melted on the header end after 3 or 4 tanks of fuel. Engine temp was never too hot either. Maybe the other guys have had better luck with theirs.

I did the 4 spider mod after break in. Could already see some wear on the housing. So if ya wait too long, you'll need housings.

Brakes are crap too. Little to none at all. I stripped the "plastic" brake hub before I did the brake mod. The dual brake from hpi comes with a metal hub. I bought the linkage at the same time, but haven't put it on. After putting the brakes on, it would nose over with the brakes. Actually flipped it end over end. :devious:

Only other thing I think I've done is upgraded to the bigger hpi air filter.
Keep the wheels tight. Heard some guys stripping the stock ones. Haven't mine.
Good luck. With a little upkeep, its a great truck.
