Just received my Savage X SS on Nov. 19 and need some help on the final build to get this finished and get it up and running. I am new to the RC world. This is my first build and have had a great time do it. I know the real fun is yet to come. The mechanical part was easy as can be. So I am looking to get some help with the rest. I have been doing a lot of reading and searching but I want first hand input. I believe in buying the best, as you get what you pay for. I can find most of the items on the web but when it comes to what brand to get or what to stay away from, I have no clue.

Need some input on some more mods, hop-ups and maintenance items.

I will start by listing what I have already have.

Savage X SS.
Spektrum DX3.0
Three speed Trans.
Hitec HS 5955GT servo, for the steering.
Reverse Module.
Rubber sealed bearing for the steering.
Nova adjustable 3-piece clutch. Had to use stock springs as I could not get the Mugen springs to work right.
Hex drive screw kit.

Now for the parts I am looking for and info I need.

1. Stock tires and wheels have to go. I want beadlock wheels and some good tires. I have no clue as to what size or brand. They need to have that real monster truck look. Tires have to be good and go where ever I take the truck. Stock tires and wheels are like going out and buying a $35,000 truck and putting 10 cent wheels on it. LOL

2. Shock oil and spring sets or better yet, better shocks that can take what I throw at them. I don't mind the stock ones but feel they need some upgrading to work better.

3. The stock Throttle/Brake/Reverse Linkage must go. Need some good metal servo arms that will fit the Hitec 5955GT, Spektrum Z590 and the Spektrum Z270 and what linkage to put this all together. Yes I have read countless topics about this and still can’t figure out just what parts are needed. If I can make the stock steering linkage better other than the bearings let's hear about it.

4. CV Drive Shafts like these. http://www.tsais.com/products/TBonz/index.html#SAVAGE Any good?

5. Differential shim kit. I also need shims that are 15.9mm OD with a 8.0mm ID. These are for my axles if I keep the stocks ones.

6. Dual exhaust is a must.

7. Hump pack. I have been looking at this one but I will have to mod the servo box to make it fit. Not a big deal but like too find one that will fit with nearly the same specs. http://www.onlybatterypacks.com/showitem.asp?ItemID=10165

8. Glow Starter been looking at this one. http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXMN95 Any good? Some good glow plugs.

9. Any fluids and grease such as for the Differential, DB, fuel needs to be the best, Air filters and ABO oil. Any thing (tools for tunning) that I will need to keep this running and to take good care of MT. Spares parts to keep on hand.

I know this is a lot of stuff, but this is the part that I have no clue as to what is right or wrong. I need to get this stuff ordered ASAP as I want to fire up my new toy on New Years Day. What a way to start the new Year!

Thanks for taking the time reading this and any help you may have to offer.

Stone.

Has any one changed the fuel tank to HPI NITRO MT2 fuel tank? I hear that the 4.6 will hold a better tune and run cooler. Thanks.

Last item. Good foam inserts.

If I had the $$ this would be my tires and wheels

Shocks
Find a kit to install four LST shocks otherwise keep the stock ones.

Linkage
Do a search for Ofna Linkage

You should be able to find a shim kit at any Hobby shop

Glow starter
I like the long reach, anyone will work. I also keep a cheap one that uses a d sized battery so I don't have to wait for charging

Fuel...You want to find a brand that a hobby shop near you carries then ask again....Cost too much and takes too long to ship hazardous material.

I ran the stock tank with a 4.6 with no heat or tuning issues. If you want a different tank do a search for tank mod

The rest of the stuff is personal preference...Not really a best IMO.

Most people on this site don't mind answering questions but if your in a hurry or want multiple answers try the search box and you will instantly get many answers.

Stay away from the dual exhaust setups. Will only give you tuning issues later... Vantage Racing makes a nice CF pipe for the SAvage.. If you really want to get crazy, they also make some really sick looking CF upper & lower arms..

1 - The stock Dirt Bonz tires are very good.

2 - Depends on how you use the truck. The stock shocks and springs are good, but you should change the oil. Trinity 30W is a good start.

3 - Ofna linkage, although I've been running the stock linkage for 3 years and it works for me.

4 - I would not bother.

5 - The X SS kit is supposed to come with shimmed diffs.

6 - Don't bother, the stock X SS dual chamber pipe is a good one.

7 - Any standard 6V hump will work without mods, this is a nice one -> http://www2.towerhobbies.com/cgi-bin/wti0001p?&I=LXNMD7&P=7

8 - Get a long one with a meter.

9 - After run oil, shock fluid, diff fluid, CA glue, Shoe Goo, Nitro of your choice.

10 - Fuel tank - the stock tank is good but it is large and it tends to lean when the fuel level gets low. The uniflow mod solves this.

6. Dual exhaust is a must.

As Jon2 alluded to, I'd stay away from this! They look good...and that's all they do. These things will drive you bonkers trying to get and maintain a tune on that engine.

As for the shocks, the stockers are actually very, very durable, but like RossB mentions, change the fluid in them. STAY AWAY FROM THE INTEGY PIGGYBACKS AT ALL COSTS! Trust me, if there's one thing I know about this hobby, Integy shocks flat out suck!
