Hello All. Just wanted to post cause I may need some pointers.
I bought the Savage 25 from a friend, 1st time for me owning a gas powered r/c. The first time I took it out with another friend and ran the heck out of it, what a blast. Of course half the screws fell out of the rear end and the center rear dogbone was missing. So it took me 2 days but I finally tracked down all the parts and got it all back together. I took advantage of doing this work and cleaned the crap out of all the parts, removing all the normal dirt and grime. Anyways I decided to take it out today in the general area just to make sure I had it all back together correctly. Seemed to be running great then next thing you know I got too close to a lake here and it slid out on the rocks and plump!! upside down in the lake. It was submerged for about 15 seconds -- instantly shut off, guess it doesn't like water.
Now I have it in 500 parts again, I took the motor as far apart as I could, soaked it in wd40. Seems to still have good compression and acts as normal. I figured I'd let it sit overnight before attempting to start it. As for the rest of the parts.. Servos reset to zero when power on, but no response. I turned them off as soon as I got it out of the water, I figure I may be lucky if they dry but probably not. I can already tell this is going to be an expensive hobby, but what a fun one. I would like to know if anyone knows where I might be able to find some details as to how to remove the servos and anything else I may need to. Generally I just remove screws, but I'd like to get it all back together again someday. The rear end seems simple enough, but the front is more of a pain, the transmission looks the same. I'm hoping worst case is I half to replace the electronics. If the motor is bad then any ideals of what I should go for to replace it? Also if there is any type of service manuals out there. I've found springs and crap all over the thing that dont appear to be installed correctly. Again being new to the sport/hobby I have no experience with it. But I do know electronics and engines. Needless to say once I have it running again I will not go anywhere near water again. Not even getting through a tank of gas on this thing and I'm already hundreds of dollars invested.
One more thing.. I need some good shocks. Everytime I try to turn this beast at any decent speed it wants to roll. And to think I was looking at 2 and 3 speed transmissions -- gonna wait till I'm better at controlling it.
Thanks

Ahhh...the nice hobby of savage swimming....fun isn't it? LOL, I've been there too, my savage once went swimming in a canal 10' from the shore upside down, I had to jump in and get it.
Luckily on mine, I ran and got a heat gun as fast as I could, ripped open the reciever, dried that out, then dried the servos out, and dare not turn them one untill the next day, and luckily all my electronics were fine, but the engine would not start. So I waited a few more days and tried like a billion times, and it finally started... lol, I was very lucky...
If your engine is trashed (it's probably not) then I reccomend the sportwerks .26, it has loads of torque (but not too much), is easy to tune, holds a tune well, and is a great beginner or racer engine.
As for shocks, well it wanting to roll is normal, nothing you can really do except remove some of the clips at the tops of the shocks to lower the truck. You don't need to go out and pay $80+ for shocks where the same thing is gonna happen...

oOR you could visit our old friend eddy www.rcdocuments.com
hes got just about anything you could need for an rc manual.. all readly available to download.. alot easyer then poking through the manuafacture websight.. later

Yes, except he has no savage manual! I thought of that too, and I went to go look, and didn't see ONE! I'm amazed! LOL. :hammer:

Just what I've heard. It IS basically the same as the mach .26 and lOTS of people like the mach, and a lot end up upgrading the the sportwerks carb. I'm a member of savage-central, and check up on there every so often, and I know lots of people on there like the sportwerks .26 and mach .26. I, myself plan on getting the hpi .28 because it has more rpms and power, but is still a good racing engine...

ummmm...I think it already has a 2 speed transmissioin but check out e-bay, if they were stock electronics you can pick up better servos and still pay about the same price as stock ones

let the electronic dry out real good. maybe 1-2 days. with some luck u should be okay. if they do not respond, look on the for sale board, a few guys normally sell off old servos and recvrs when they upgrade. for around 40 bucks u can get 2/3 stocke servos mailed to u. look around, the b/s/t boards can your best friend at times. as for the shocks, the stockers are suprisingly very good. no need to waste money there, just remove the spacers to lower the ride. another idea would be to change out the oils to better fit your driving. hope this helps. side not, check out savageracer.com, ******************* and savage-central.com for hints on the savage. all have great guys willing to help

Well good news.. after scrubbing motor with wd40 and blowing out the servos all seems to be ok.
Now when the engine starts it sounds as though it is backfiring, and stalls.
Guess I get to work on tuning the engine now -- fun fun. Going to try and use the manual for that.
I'm just happy its not dead.
