Some guys build the small engines for a hobby.
Had a sub once to a magazine called "Strictly IC." Some real works of art there. Anything from a hit and miss engine to a 12 cyl merlin or a 9-cyl radial.
You can get some kits. Mostly what they call "casting kits." The parts have been cast, but the machine work is yours.
I love to look at stuff like that but way more patience and know how than I have...
