RC Driving Style
I finally received my Savage 25 yesterday! Right away, I noticed that the window decal on the driver's side is missing, and it wasn't included on the sticker sheet. Anyone else have that problem? Other than that, everything else looked good. I read the manuals. Installed the batteries and experienced the thrill of trying to put that cover back on. Now I know why you guys buy hump packs and leave an opening for charging. I'll stick with my AAs for now, but that might be an upgrade very soon! I installed my inline fuel filter, then I had a question. Does it matter if the fuel lines touch the engine? My old T-maxx had little heat shields on the fuel line. Do I need them? Next, I tried to check the throttle settings by looking at the carb, but I couldn't get the air filter off. What is holding it on?? I don't see a zip tie. I managed to squeeze oil all over my hand trying my best to yank it off. I can take out the foam and check it that way, but I will need to take it off, when I install my motor saver filter. My box had a red x, so I'm going to trust/hope HPI took care of my unit in that respect. Not sure when I'll get to break it in, they're calling for the coldest weather of the year so far, this weekend. It figures, last weekend we enjoyed temperatures in the 70s here in PA. Oh well, it'll give some more time to get familiar with my new beast! Thanks in advance for any help or advice you can offer!

That air filter should come off. There is a little lip on the carb and the inside of the filter. Just squeeze the bottom and move it from side to side a little and it will come off.

Whatever you do DO NOT TRUST that HPI took care of your engine. One of the guys on Savage-Central found a nut inside his engine! It is always a good idea to do a visual inspection. Here is the link to his thread.

I would try to keep my fuel lines away from the engine. RCNT sells fuel line covers that you can install. I am not sure if the supply has been restocked.

Where about in PA? I'm in the north east corner (near wilkes-barre and scraton). If you're close, there is a pretty good RC racing scene around here (Monster Trucks and Buggies).

Do not assume anything. Before anything, I go around and make sure all the screws are tight. Make sure that your wheel nuts are always tight. One loose nut and that hub will be stripped and you'll have to buy new wheels. I always go around and check them before every tank. Have fun with it.

Yes, I did see that guy on Savage-central. That nut inside his carb was crazy. I follow that board and this board. Sometimes I post the same questions on both boards just for more opinions.

I'm in southeastern PA, Chester County and Berks County. I don't know of any RC scene around here, but I haven't done any research to look either, so I'm sure there are some.
