Hey guys ! just got my first nitro powered R/C today.

DuraTrax Evader ST .18 (stadium truck)

Bought her brand new and didnt even use it yet. I'm getting ready to break it in tomorrow. Besides all that , id like to know some other sites that are good for aftermarket performance and replacement parts. I live by hobbytownusa but just curious if theres other reputable places on the net?

thanks
walter

Congrats on the r/c.All of us are going to tell you to get a good air filter and a good fuel filter for starts..And there are lots of more things you can do.I'm not sure about the net thing cuz i don't live in the USA but i bet someone from this board can help you on that ..:radio:

The first one that comes to mind is Tower Hobbies. They do some huge amounts of business on line.

http://www.towerhobbies.com/

Another one is Stormer Hobbies

http://www.stormerhobbies.com/

I'll let some others chime in on their favorites, but those two should get you started.

BTW welcome to the hobby and the forum. I used to live near Cleveland...little town named Avon Lake. Hows the weather up there in Medina?

weather stinks right now but dont worry, no rain tomorrow means i can break my new toy in.

my g/f even wants to learn how to drive it and work on it!!!

Good choice on the fuel. And the RC looks like a decent one. I can't speak to stadium trucks, but there are a number of fellows on this board that can.

you probably know all this, but just idle the engine for like 3-5 tanks...don't even mess with the throttle...break-in is an important part...also...go slow and get used to the car...don't go all badass all out...that's how you crash...most important, have fun, if you're not, then something's wrong

nitrojunkie102,

1.) buy a fuel filter. They cost less than $5 and they will save your engine.

2.) get a temp gun. I can't tell you how many times I use my temp gun as a beginer carb tuner. You have to know if you're getting too hot.

Just so you know, you should expect problems. This hobby is half driving the car and having fun and have fixing the car and having fun. If you're not a good problem solver or if you get frustrated easy, you'll be taking the car to the hobby shop several times.

By the way, do you think your girlfriend could call my wife? All she has to say is that nitro is fun and that my wife really should get into it. :hehe: Seriously, that's cool she's into your new hobby. Have her signup for the forum. She'd be the only female and would be worshiped by all. Your duratrax would never get more help. :D

Welcome to RCNT,
Rob

:w00t: Congrats! Nitrojunkie!

I am glad to see u have entered into a great hobby!

Please take to heart what novicerob said, do expect to break things, dont get frusturated, that is part of the hobby, and it can be fun to repair things as u go along.

I had a durtrax streetforce as my first rc, and i can give u some pointers.
1. Make sure u check all the nuts and bolts - durtrax skimps on the threadlock sometimes, and u dont wanna lose an important bolt, in the middle of a field.
2. Break in the engine properly, watch the video, when u r done, watch it again. this is so important, if u break the engine in wrong, it will constantly overheat, and stall on u, this happened to me, as i was to anxious to drive my car.
3. take your time with your new rc, really get a feel for it, and make sure u spend quality time with care and maintenance.
4. U will here some people talk bad about duratrax, and i personally do not like alot of their products either, but on the evader, they copied almost directly, one of the greatest ST's out there, the RC10GT. This enabled them to build a great truck. i am sure u will be happy with it, if u take ur time.
5. Break the engine in properly
6. Break the engine in properly
7. have fun!

i live in akron... not too far from medina.... .let me know if you find any tracks around!!

I'm a noob too though...
