It is finally time to replace the s-25 motor on my Savage. I think i have narrowed down the choices of the new engine to picco .26 and the fantom 27. Just looking for some input to finalize the decision or if someone know a better motor for around 200.00 info would be greaty appreciated

I just got a Werks picco .26 last week and all I can say is its very fast..I love it man. I have it in my buggy but I can't even imagine what it would be like in a savage except for BAD@$$!!!!

I agree. The XTM 24.7 is one of the best engines for quality. It has tons of low end torque, what you need for MTs, and great high end too. it runs around 130 new for 2.6 HP. IMO you cannot beat this engine for bang for your buck. The pro version has as muck power as the picco and is about 180, I don't if it is worth it to buy the pro because I have never had it, but the 24.7 is one hell of an engine.

There are alot of options other than the two you listed. I was all ga ga over an XTM 24.7 Pro my LHS had, then I was at another an they had a Wasp 28 just arrive. I went back to slobber on the Wasp the next day and it was gone. I haven't bought one yet, my stockers runnin great. I'd just like to have a backup in hand just in case. My thinking right now is the 24.7 Pro, everything I've read about it in a Savage has been positive. It's a tough call, but I don't think your gonna find a bad one in the bunch.

Yeah, the 24.7 is almost overkill for power in a buggy, I'm sure the Pro could pull wheelies in a savage.

My bad on the Wasp 28 thing...It was a NovaRossi 28 the LHS had recieved, that I was gaga over. They put a Wasp 26 in place of the Rossi, when they sold it. The NovaRossi has a black anodized head, if I'm remembering correctly. I've heard good things about the Rossi 28, but since I bought an NTC+, I've been looking at every conceivable engine combo out there, whether it be MT or On Road. I don't believe the Wasp 28 is out yet. I hope I didn't confuse anyone. :smoke:

The stock S-25 is rated at 2.5 HP. Is the XTM 24.7 really an upgrade over the S-25?

I have a 24.7 with the big head in my hyper 7 and its crazy! Its hard to control because it has so much power. For 130 you can't beat it! I actually paid $75 for it brand new off of ebay. If thats an option for you I would definatly look on ebay!

Has anybody been using the mach 26? I am just curios as to how it performs.

forget about all of those numbers. I've personally ran both those mills in my savage..and the xtm 24.7 has alot more power than the S-25. wheelies all day and will even wheelie during a roll-on. manufactuteres specs dont mean much at all...especially when it comes to "sport" engines..were the numbers are really inflated. tuning is great as good on it too.

funny thing is a brand new s-25 is like 150$, and a brand new 24.7 is 130$.

I've got a mach 26 and it flat spanks the s25 all across the rpm range. Even with it geared at 13/52 it would out run my s25 at 15/49. I can tap the throttle and wheelie all day or gear up if I want speed without wheelies. You'll find that over at savage-central the mach is one of the favorite engines with the fellas.

I have a Picco .26 Outlaw and it's crazy fast and also running a Wasp .26 check out my site I some video. One thing for sure get a lot of spur gears or upgrade to the steel ones.
