Hey everyone! I broke my motor in the other day nearly not as cold as today. It is real cold and it will be cold over the next 9 more days. I think i seen 1-15 deg and with the wind chill it will FEEL like Neg -1 and under. So i broke the motor in and i had to even rich the high end. I do not want to cause any damage. I have read that braking in a motor in cold weather will be OK. Then the spring will come around and the piston will not be set for the warmer weather. Kinda makes sense. Now to just see what you guys think, should i just keep my maxx on the self tell i see warmer temps? I broke the motor in around 40 deg or so . Last tank it was colder (rich the high end for 25 deg). I am just nervous to run in this weather then it warms up in 2 weeks then i am supper rich. I did get a micro T to keep busy in doors yesterday. I did order my temp gauge today .

Wait until you have a temp gauge. You need to be over 200, preferably closer to 250. The problem with weather that cold is that you would have to lean the motor out so much that you may not get enough oil to the bearings and other moving parts while also getting the temps up. Solution to that of course is to insulate a portion of the cooling head. The elastic ring from a sock might do the trick. Regardless, don't run it until you can accurately measure temps. Btw... it isn't that the "piston" will not be set for warm weather. You'll just have to retune.

I wouldn't recommend it, but If you really have to you must have a temp gauge and pre-heat the engine to at least 200 deg. before the break in process.

Yup i used a sock lol to try to get the temps up lol. I have a temp on its way, i have it 5 turns on the high and factory for the low then i leaned it 1/4 . Idle is good i just would hate to take a new motor that is broke in and do like ya said not get enough oil and be back where i started another 80.00 wasted. Thanks bro i will play with my micro T. My cats hate it lol

It is broke in, last thank i was getting to second gear and it was boging at factory specs. I have the high end a tad past 5 turns , low end is factory flush then i leaned it 1/4 but the pinch test is more then 5 seconds. Idle is not bad i do have to give it a tad gas to get the motor to fire. I rather not start tuning for 10 deg weather then its 45 deg in like 2 weeks and i am all messed up. I tend to do well with tuning the weather changes then i get all pissed lol. I got a temp on its way i used a sock for brake in and it helped. I did heat the motor up before its first tank. It was hard to turn over but it fired and i had to work throttle to and up the idle a tad. Keep in mind i have my carb its not a preset on from traxxas. I used parts from my 3.3 with the new 2.5 i just got. MY maxx is really a mix maxx. Thing is nuts i have to get pics for you guys. Its a true basher imo . thanks bro

Glad its comin along! You guys are getting hammered with that cold weather! : (
