So, since the wife took the kids out for some halloween stuff today I decided to take my Savage SS out for a run after it has been sitting for a few months (been working on other projects). I pulled the cord on my S-25 and it decided to not go back in, guess I need a new recoil assy. for it now. Anyway I had an almost new Ofna/Picco 26 sitting on the shelf, (thanks to Jon2) well I threw that sucker in, ran around a bit and got it tuned in pretty nice, and then went off! I had a blast, what a huge difference over the S-25, looks like I am going to have to re-gear it, I can't keep the front end on the ground now. Now I am almost out of fuel and will have a 200+ mile round trip to get to a hobby shop to get some, man that sucks!

And TJ, my head now looks much worse than yours and I only ran it about an hour, lol.

man thats a long drive for fuel.yeah the picco makes a huge difference and you are right it makes it wheely like mad.

order your fuel! contact maxy good fuel comes by the case (4 gals) for a decent price. the more you order you ge a discount but you gotta call and ask for it. i run 30% in my wasp .26 and it is just an animal with that fuel i love the stuff.

If you think the picco .26 is sick then you should run the picco .27! I have already snapped 3 dogbones in a day! It is an absolute animal.

Thats a great motor. Mine is over 5 gallons old and it just keeps running awesome. I nearly killed mine today when my Motorsaver popped off during a 15 minute off-road A-Main. I heard my motor get louder during the race but I didn't know the air cleaner was off so I kept going. I thought that the pipe gasket ripped and it was leaking, but I was wrong. When I got home I took off the carb, head, and backplate and inspected my motor. I am very lucky. There was a very small amount of dirt in the carb mouth and the crank passage but luckily nothing made its way into the cylinder. The sleeve still looks great with no scratches at all. There are no scratches in the crank and no dirt buildup behind the crank in the backplate area. I cleaned everything out with nitro cleaner and compressed air. I lubed it up with ARO and I am ready to go again.

Anyway, get yourself a 9mm carb insert from Nitrohouse, and if you are running the silver tapered LSN needle get the black blunt LSN. Try running it with 18/47 gearing.

How much of a difference in performance does the black needle make? I have the silver one in it now, but I also have a new black one.

As far as gearing, mine is still geared like it was for the S-25, 15-49, the SS kit also came with an 18 tooth clutch bell, I will throw that on and see how it is with 18-49.

Glad to hear you got off lucky after losing the a/f.

Check the Picco parts list. The black needle is designed for use with the 9mm carb insert. Use the black needle if you run the 9mm insert, otherwise stick with the silver.

That is nice to hear you got tha puppy in finally! I ran it in mine and it was fun but I had to figure out the gearing as it was really powerful compared to the s-25. Now put that puppy next to my modded S-25 ( Thank you Markallen!!) and let see what shee is made of! I think if you really want to wake it up try going for a better pipe. I used a OS 2050 and it totally changed its RPM range. It seemed to want to wake up my S-25.
