RC Driving Style
Ok, as I'm sure you have guessed, I'm new to the compeditive RC scene. I have yet to purchase my kit, and had a few questions before I do. I'm strongly leaning toward the associated ntc3, because I'm all over the idea of shaft drive, and I've heard nothing but good things about them. Unfortunately they don't have a "factory team" option that I am aware of, which brings me to my questions.

Keep in mind that I wish to be compeditive, without being fanatical.

1. I'm looking to compete in my local track's stock .12 class. What engine/tuned pipes would you recomend?

2. In order of importance/necessity, what chassis/suspension upgrades would you recomend?

3. Would you recomend a 1 way front diff?

4. Any breakin/matinance tips that someone new to Nitro RC might need to know?

I am not a compedative Road car racer but I did spend a lot of time at the local track learning about it before I decided to go with Gas Truck instead.
I will tell you one thing. That the consensus I got was that belt drive were faster and that shaft drives were not as compedative. the benefit of shaft drive is that you can bash it and not worry about rocks and junk getting in your drive line like with a belt. X
 
Apparently a one way front diff can make the car slightly faster - but at the same time more difficult to control because you lose braking on the front wheels. Trust me, from my experience with rear only brakes on a Stampede and a Rustler - driving is ENTIRELY different.
 
I went with the factory team 3041 kit. Rear exhaust, bumpstart and 4 wheel drive. Does have the one way and exactly as Retread said, makes the car twitchy. But without it, its a whole new driving experience as well. Most think it runs better without it.

I havent had the ability to dial-in my TC3 due to the weather and wont til spring, but, I can tell you that it is the local favorite all around on-road.

Serpent is probably the BEST but the cost is up there.

Shaft drive = GOOD!

I went with a Ti upper deck to reduce chassis flex.

I also bought the HPI hard foam inserts to stiffen up the tires.

Mugen MT .12 bighead is a killer mill. Runs cold and fast as hell.

HarcoreRacing makes some killer upgrades.

Failsafe IS A MUST! 70mph cars out of control can be a VERY VERY VERY bad thing.

Suspension is good out of the box - learn it well, THEN, decide on upgrades based on your experiences and what you are looking for.

Follow the book to the letter in regards to breaking in your mill. Each manufacturer has slightly different methods. Use what your manufacturer recommends and all will be good.
 
My recamendation would be to get the Yokomo RTR. With their .12 you will kick but. And i think it would be a good idea to gt their upgradeable chasis and their one way front diff. If you learn to take the courners fast I would say nowone will beat you ecept the experianced drivers. Good luck

I do have yet another question.

I'm considering using the O.S. .12tr slide carb motor on my tc3. Is there any particular tuned pipe, that y'all recomend?

I've been looking, and there are a considerable number of em out there.
