Alright guys, Its that time again. My wife and I are looking to get a new digi cam. I want something like a rebel or equal, but my wife wants a point and shoot.

Here comes the question, what can we get to satisfy both of us. THe reason she wants a poin/shoot is because we have a little one and another on the way and she wants to be able to take fast shots and not have to fuss with anything.

The main reason I want a slr is because I want to have the ability to have a great zoom, and take some amazing pictures. And basically I don't want to have to buy one for another 3-4 years.

What do you guys think?

oh and price I'm figureing under 1k.

The Rebel has a great auto function, which is great for point and shoot. Flips up the flash if necessary too.

The Rebel is for PHOTOGRAPHS, a point and shoot is for SNAPSHOTS.
Get one of each, I haven't found one yet that will do both.

can't fit the Rebel in you pocket for those spontaneous shots we all like.
Most point and shoots are limited to getting a "Good" photograph but will never be great.

I use my Rebel and have a 5mp Sony the size of a Credit card for point and shoot.

yeah, Eddy's probably right. Anything that is capable of NICE photo's just isn't practical to stuff in your pocket.

We have a Rebel and it's an awesome camera.. but again, you can't shove it in your pocket, especially since ours always has a a 300mm lens on it. My wife is the photographer so she likes to fiddle with all the manual functions. I'm the point/shooter and I always seem to get great shots in full auto mode. As long as you can deal with the not so compact size, I definately recommend it. If you would like to see some full auto shots LMK and I'll email you some stuff so you can see what it can do.
