I can't seem to get the motor to rev up enough to start. (brand new engine and truck)

The piston always gets stuck and when the engine does rotate its slow and only for a few seconds then stops....then the safety feature on the ez start doesn't allow me to restart for a bit when I try again. I have also seen little puffs of smoke from the starter motor.

I have a new 1500 7.2 battery (am I using the right one or maybe the battery is defective somehow?) and I am using the ez start system.

It started once for a few seconds so I have had one success but after fooling it with for 3 hours....nothing but a slow turning engine.

The new battery also seems to discharge quickly. Its been a while since I have been using these batteries so I assume they still only need 15 min charge?

My charger shows the amps go below 3 so I assume its charged. Even when I first try to start the engine with a fresh charge it doesn't turn very fast.

HELP and thanks! :D

First, make sure your battery is discharged all the way if it's a nicd. If it's a nimh, begin by making sure the battery is room temp and nice and cool. Then charge it for 15 min and see if it's warm. Charge for a few more minutes or until battery is warm, not hot. Set the carb to factory settings. Make sure your glow plug is good. Open carb with trim on remote a little. Prime it by covering exhaust and turn the motor over or blow in the pressure line until fuel is to the carb. Try it and post back. The ez start not turning over may indicate a whole other problem and if the motor smoked, it's probably junk. Try it and post.

It was the new battery. Discharging it did the trick.

I discharged it with my charger (it has a discharge feature) then recharged it.

The engine cranked and started with no problems. I have run 3 tanks through it so far and its good to go. :first_place:

Thank you.
