Need some help please.

Hey Guys. Well today i broke out the maxx to run it. Just by hand, The batterys are dead. So it started up and i just opened it up, Lots of blue smoke. Well it was doing good for a little while, Then it cuts off when i just let it idle right after i let off of the metal bar controlling the throttle. Whats up??? And also, When i open the tank its steaming. I think thats because of the cold air. Am I right? What suggestions do you have for me. Also factory standard tuning would help. Thanks a bunch!

since yosaid there was lots of blue smoke, then it may be to rich. However its cold and waht may look like lots of smoke might just be steem. So it may be to Lean, Did it sound groggy like it was to rich and RPMing low ro the opposite? Not sure mine did the same thing, i would start it and let it idol to warm up then when i went to hit the gas it would die innediately, but i sold mine so. Hope otheres can help more than i have.

The reason it quits when you let off the throttle is the same reason it would quit when you hit the brake on your Tx. You need to manually set your idle screw with the trim set all the way down. Since you can't trim it using a dead radio, just turn the throttle servo all the way down and raise your idle.

First thought. Idle's too low. Thanks to Rolex, we have that covered. Also, fish is on a track, too. If you let off the throttle arm and it idles for a second then dies, I would suspect your low speed needle needs adjusting. The temps are very low outside right now. So it's throwing your fuel mix off.
So first, I'd adjust the idle stop screw. Then richen the LSN a bit and see how it runs. With a bit change in ambient temperature you're gonna hafta do a fair retune.

And the "steam" coming out of your fuel tank is most likely just smoke that gets pumped in there from the pressure line running in from your exhaust....

Thanks guys. Well yeah i havent messed with an engine in a long time. So many other things have overrode my mind. So my little skills on tuning are crap right now. All is coming back though! Thank you guys.

BTW: It was running fine for about 1 1/2 minutes. Then it stalled by the way. I dont think its the low speed nor highspeed. Because, I opened the throttle slightly, To ya know just let it pump slowly, with the bumper on my leg and my hand on the rear holding it up. So i think its the idle. It did sound to low, Like an In and out sound at times.

The "steam" in the fuel tank is most likely smoke from the exhaust air used to pressurize the fuel tank.

The stalling after a minute and a half of running is most likely in the tuning. Did you retune for the freaking cold winter weather we are suddenly in the midst of? If not, then your needle settings are probably not right for the outside temps you are running in.

The rest is going to be up to you. As for the factory settings on the 2.5 should be easily found in the owners manual (if you still have it). If not, download it from TRAXXAS' site.

This is quoted from the T-MAXX Manual on page 29 (right hand margin):

If your factory preset carburetor adjustments have been
tampered with, use the following settings: set the low-speed needle
so that the screw head is flush with the end of the slide. Set the
high-speed needle to 4 turns out from closed. Always use the factory
settings for initial starting. Only use these settings when the factory
settings have been lost.
