thats a matter of opinion its all in what your looking for . but my 2 cents is yes. they are usaully ahead on most techno. and because of their (traxxas) size and longevity they have the largest aftermarket parts following. which means tons of upgrade options and decent pricing.

dragonlike76 how about a volcano monster truck it will be my 1st nitro truck.

I've always had a lot of fun with Traxxas products. I have a T-MAXX 3.3 4908 that i bought new last year and have had a blast with it. I also own a Savage X that I bought used a couple months ago. I personally think that the Savage is a better built more durable truck plus it comes outta the box with big block power! Traxxas trucks are great for thier technology and customer support plus they have the largest aftermarket parts market. In my experience I have done just as much wrenching on my MAXX as I have running it. The Savage on the other hand I have run the snot out of and haven't broken anything yet.

would you suggest a new guy like me to rc to get an electric or nitro since it would be my very 1st rc vehicle?

I don't know much about the electric side of the hobby, but I will defend nitro here. I think (imo), that nitro is way better then electric. If your ready for a challenge, and a lot of fun, (dont get me wrong, I'm sure electrics are challenging and fun too), go with what you think is best for you. One smell of that nitro burning, and you'll fall in love......:D

icunvmytmaxx,

what would be a good nitro powered monster truck for me? i live on a farm so i have alot of room for speed and big yard and field by my house.:first_place:

For starters, call me Kev....Hahahaha....second, sounds like you want something tough, and fast. Id go with either a savage or a Tmaxx 3.3. I have a 2.5r maxx, and it flies!!! Both machines have 2 speed trannys. Which means you got your speed right there. I just bought a savage off a guy on here and I'm hoping I have it by Friday. That's the best advice I can give ya. Go with a 2 speed tranny, and you should be real happy.......;)

there is a hpi savage x 4.6 nitro that i bid on i just hope i didnt bid too much on it. i put a link of the ebay add on the savage forum on here check it out and let me know if that is too much.

Hey Kev. Let me give you some advice when you get that Savage you're 2.5 is gonna collect a lot of dust trust me I know. I haven't touched my T-MAXX since I bought my Savage 2 months ago once you get it and see how well made it is and how easy it is to work on not to mention the big block power well you'll find out. Don't get me wrong I love my T-MAXX and don't plan on ever getting rid of it both are great trucks but the Savage is very impressive.

Yea dude, thanx for the heads up. Lol. I've read up a lot about the savages, and I believe ya when you say my Tmaxx is gonna collect dust. Everyone talks real highly of them and I'm afraid I'm gonna neglect the traxxas. She does deserve a break though. I've put it through hell so far this summer. Broken parts and easy fixes. But I'm anxious to get this savage. I'm sure ill be posting a few questions as I've never owned one. But I'm pretty psyched to get it.......:D

Darryl - You asked the question electric or nitro for a first RC vehicle.
I'm a nitro guy (love the sound as well as the smell - and hate to be steering you towards "the other side"), but I'll suggest an electric for your first RC vehicle.

Nitro engines have their own learning curve and unless you have a friend that knows Nitro RC, it can be a challenge to go it alone.

I have a friend that owns a hobby shop and he tries to steer new to the hobby customers to electric. I've heard many a tale about customers who ignored his advice - bought a nitro - and then tried to return it "because it was defective".

If you're dead bent of going nitro, there's a lot of knowledgeable people here willing to help, but be prepared.
In that case I'll put my 2 cents in and suggest a Savage - but since you asked...

Darryl, i agree with TGL. i hate to send someone to the other side too but if youve never run rc before electric is much easier to learn control with. if you want the challenge and rewards that go with it nothing can compare to nitro.
but these things are far from the old nikko grasshoppers many of us had when we were younger. they are fast and at times challenging to control. but dang their fun. if you are mechanially inclined their are plenty on here that will help you. either way you decide let us know.

the only extra things i will need to buy is a starter kit, battery and charger for the roto start, and some AA batteries right?

Yea that's about all ya need not sure bout roto starts and if they come with chargers typically these rtr setups come with everything ya need but fuel they've even got ur basic tools with a lot of them if you are going nitro for your first rc (congrats you'll love it) and ur it gettin it brand new do yourself a HUGE favor read the whole manual every page and read the breakin page 2 times and follow it to the letter. Ill let ya know from my experience its a HUGE temptation to peg the engine right after first fuel up to see how it does. Don't. Follow the break in even though it'll seem to take a while and your engine will last much longer. Also the guys on this forum are awesome and very polite and helpful (even with noobs who are askin tons of questions) so this sites an awesome tool but take a few hours and search every tuning guide you can on here I'm sure someone can post some links to write ups as well. Put that extra effort into the research and you'll save TONS of headaches so later you don't pull it out and have to put it right back up to look stuff up about tuning. Also what really helped me as a first time nitro guy a couple months ago was write up some notes on tuning to take with you and have a great time
