Ok so i've talkd myself out of goin to the electric, cause i promised the old lady tht i would blow too much money on this hobby and the price on motors and batteries and extra batteries and etc. was wayyy more than she would alow me, lol.

But i'm almot positive i've burnt up the motor from running it too lean it is locked up bad and i broke something in it trying to get it running again, i havent taken it apart yet to see exactly wht i did, been over a week since i done it i got a sick dog and trying to get her healthy takes over messing with my truck.

so wht is the best mods to do to get the most power out of my revo 3.3 truck.. like motor, pipe, gears, etc...

you do realize that although electric is expensive to start, nitro fuel is at about $30 a gallon right??

anyway.. the picco .26 is a good drop in engine, the resonator pipe is well matched to the small to mid block engines, or you could side pipe it and have a better selection. the gearing all depends on what you are doing with it.

and since you arent to great at tuning, a rebuild every gal, or two at about $100 gets pretty expensive as well.:D

+1 on the picco .26

better tuning will come with experience, there isnt a good hobby shop close to me so i'm learning it all myself. I'll get it all figured out and if it cost me a lil on the front end then so be it, comes with being the teacher and student.

I'm not saying you can't learn, just saying although electric is big $$ to start, it will save you big $$ in the long run and is actually cheeper. once you have the batteries thats it, you just recharge and go. its no more, and in most cases cheeper then nitro.

but on your revo. check out the picco .26. i had the rb 523 on mine but its a rather expensive engine. for the money the picco is the way to go. side piping will open you up to alot more choices in pipes, but there are a few good rear pipes to choose from.

I've been looking at tht 523 and heard lots of great things about it and lots of good things about the picco and price isnt tht much different between them. Plus i think by starting with a brand new motor i can tune it out better cause i didnt buy my revo new, i bought the chasis from a buddy and built it up from scratch by buying parts off ebay, i dont have much money at all in the whole set-up as it is and found a used motor on tht was in excellent shape, but it wasn't new.

the 523 comes with a pipe, but the metal is very thin and dents easily i dented mine to many times and it split so i went sidepipe.

first you need to decide on a mill. they you can get a pipe to match it. you use a different header and pipe combo to run it down the side of the rig.

When I got my Revo (used) the 2.5 had almost no pinch. So after the ERP from traxxas and the old lady getting pissed i was spending money. The guys that come and clean our carpets inside just so happend to see the revo on the mantle and mentioned to my wife (while i was at work) that its a rather expensive hobby.... I wanted to kill the SOB...LOL but I feel your pain.

lol, yeah tht's pretty bad, guys should have each other's backs and not talk money around the wives. mine knows it is rather expensive, but i got soo many other hobbies so she doesn't really evne notice whn i buy new parts and stuff.

yeah thats pretty messed up that he did that. . .but its expensive to start into it but after ur into it and u already have the rig you want its relatively inexpensive to upgrade and keep the rig going

please don't tell me that ur revo is a shelf queen?????

so i took my motor apart last night, and found tht i broke my push rod and piston. so how often does tht happen?

I'll have to order the parts to fix it online, any place ya''ll knw of to get a good deal on parts? it was really easy to take apart and will be a snap to put back together, any recomendations while i have it apart?

i thought that you were going to replace the engine.
you could get it rebuilt and then polished and ported if you want it to go a little bit faster but me myself don't see the point in that unless you race and it is a top of the line engine

:goodpost: makes 2 of us

if its the stock 3.3 then traxxas may replace it. i know they were having issues with a run of them snapping con rods.

if they wont, then you might as well upgrade.

Not trying to be an ass, but told ya. It is all about tuning with these traxxas motors. I had 2 of them blow on me within 2 gal, until i learned to tune properly.

ok then so it's pretty much for certain tht an upgarde is the way to go so i'll see if i can find parts to rebuild mine, but i'll go ahead and get me a new RB TM523 motor and have my 3.3 as a backup

Traxxas did have a bad run on connecting rods, I know Davis Diesel makes a aftermarket connecting rod. I have to agree that Nitro does appear cheaper but as stated with electric, After the initial investment you are done plus no headache of tuning. I myself love my Nitro tuning if done wrong can really hurt you, but I enjoy that aspect of detail in the hobby. You must be willing to take the time to learn and perform your after run maintenance, and should have some mechanical knowledge to make it easier on yourself. I recommend breaking your motor in with the heat-cycle method that is discussed in the engine motor thread here. I broke my 3.3 in with it and the engine has performed great ever since. I believe the traxxas method is a reason for the connecting rod failures that is also mentioned in the Heat-cycle thread.
