Need more Maxx power but don't have allot of money?

Hey guys,

Well their's a plethora of engines now on the "market" that are a literal "Drop-In" for the Maxx. Many of the .18 drop-in engines on the market can be VERY pricey compared to what you spend on a true big bore. The SIrio .18 is awesome but it's still going for around $179-189 for the 2.5 drop-in and $200+ for the "Original version" that fits into the Original Maxx without mod or "upgrade kit".

FYI...To be a drop-in engine without mod on the 2.5 Maxx it has to have an IPS shaft AKA a Traxxas Shaft that's shorter than most shaft setups.

Wasp seems to have answered the calling for power hungry Maxx owners on a budget. I have some good experience now with Wasp and Picco engines and they've impressed me allot. I couldn't believe the price when I saw it but here it is. A Team Orion Wasp .18 for $100.....SWEET.

It might not totally hang with a Sirio .18 but the numbers look excellent and for the price I haven't seen anything on the market that can come close.

I have to ask a maybe stupid question. On all the T-Maxx drop in engines, will the electric start fit on it too?

Hey dude,

It's not a stupid question...lol.. If you take the pullstart of,f you should be able to put your EZStart2 on but I'm not 100% sure. I'd contat Team Orion for specifics. This engine is relatively new to the market and the "tech" info Tower HObbies doens't specify.

i got a WASP .18 from tower hobbies and it was only $89.99, that was during x-mas. it looks like a nice engine. I'm waiting for the spring so i can break this bad boy in. The engine is a drop in if u got a side exhaust header(.15) and a bellcrank throttle linkage(from like the 2.5) or other wise u have to move the whole throttle servo. i would go with the Wasp. good deal and from wut i heard, a good engine. I dont think the ez-start will fit ont he Wasp, but who knows.

I dont have anything to compair to But I already want a Drop in .26 picco(sp) to replace my sirio. Or id just like to have EB Mods or someone work over my sirio for more power.

SUp dude,

I had the pleasure of driving an EBMod'd Picco .26 recently....all I'm saying is that it was fast as phuck....lol. I was gonna have him do a full rebuild and Mod on my used SIrio .18 from Humbolt (he doesn't mod used engines) but I'm just gonna wait. I am gonna send him the last Picco .26 I have to mod for my Drag Race Maxx project. FYI...that MOd engine should melt any plastic gears you have in twenty minutes..lol.

NItro power is way to addictive.

I think the Sirio is the ONLY drop in that will accept the ez 2 starter. Mine has it But,,, I think it's the only one as of now.

SUp dude,

I love the EZ starter sytem and I hate pull starts but I've decided that I'd rather carry around a glow igniter then a big ass ez-starter as we're often walking in the middle of nowhere. Ditching the EZ-start also takes quite a bit of weight of the car. Roto-starts are also great and especially for breaking in and turning over big bores in general.

I wouldn't be suprised if the Ez start can be adapted to many of these engines as the backplate doesn't appear much different. The only way to know that is to try...eh.
