Need help with my xl

I just purchased a savage xl. It only has 4 tanks of fuel thru it, other than that its spanking new. The previous owner tried to fabricate the stock pipe and ruined it. I'm getting a cen 7.7 tuned pipe. I heard and seen on youtube that with the cen pipe, it performs to its potential. But I heard with the stock fuel tank, it tends to run lean or over heat the engine. Can i get some specific help or tips to go about this problem(what tank to replace with? Should I change the fuel lines? ect). Also I would like to know any other type of flaws or mods that can better my Xl in any way? Its my first savage so I'm not as fimiliar with it as much i am with my revo.

the savage is known for its half tank lean issue. its is the way the tank is shaped with the step or shelf in it. once the fuel passes that mark there is less surface area, which means less surface pressure, which = less fuel pressure and a leaner condition.

there are two ways to fix it,

I've seen on ebay foam inserts for xl tanks to help sort that problem out.would it work?

I switched out my pipe to a Cen 7.7 with the Uniflow mod and it made a huge difference. No more mid tank issues.

Thanks for the help and tips everyone. I have removed the baffle and installed my cen pipe and I'm in the process of uniflow mod.

hi there, here is a fix for the htl you can try.....

I personally own an xl 5.9 and I too have had an issue with the htl. Here is what I did to solve the issue. I loosened the hsn valve and turned the fuel inlet nipple so that it is routed between the air intake and cylinder head and also shortened the fuel tubing. I now don't even get the HTML issue anymore. Hope this helps......
