  1. Bashing
Hi, I have a Savage X and the other day i attempted to crank it but it just slips...by the way i have a rotostart. I took the engine out and washed the one way bearing but i discovered that there is a crack on the edge of the one way bearing. Could it be that?
-Thanks

Yup, i'd say that it can be the reason why its slippin. I would recommend to replace the OW and go back to bashing and BREAK SOM ELSE!! LOL. hope that helped.

Those OWB's are high quality, it's not the roto starts fault. It's HPI's fault for failing to put instructions in the engine manual for a proper breakin without breakage. A new engine at ambient temperature plus rich needle settings =broken OWB's.
To prevent this, preheat your engine for the first 8 tanks or so. Loosen the glow plug a little to relieve the strain on the bearing.
HPi will tell you it's user error, which is true. BUT they do not tell you the proper way!
You switch to pullstart and you'll be carrying home a non-running truck in one hand and a broken pullstart in the other. Roto is the best starting method except for starterboxes. Can't use those on a Savage though.Good strong batts help too, the faster it spins, the easier it starts.
Follow my advice and your OWB's will last 3-4 gallons easily.

Thanks for the info...but if i stick with the roto and get a new OW do i have to break it in or something?

#1 for Scrogg's post. A new big block can be very hard on OWBs without loosening the glow plug and pre heating during the breakin.

The owb in the savage always seems to get greasy causing it to slip on the shaft, your owb may be bad, however this is not always the case. What I did to remedy this is I drilled a hole the size of the crank shaft in the back of the rotostart plate, whenever I try starting it and it slips, I spray a quick burst of wd-40 on the owb and it grips the shaft and the engine starts right up. Quick easy fix.:p:

Rolex is right about the already damaged bearing, but I have a smaller hole for the same purpose. Just needs to be big enough to fit the red straw into. Works great when you use higher oil content fuels like I do.

This thread answered one of my questions - whether you need to apply a lube on the OWB or not. Well, actually it started me questioning the necessity of applying a lube in the first place.

I've got an old bottle of Serpent one-way lube that I've been using forever. Since I've never really had a significant number of OWB failures, I've continued to use it out of habit (one bottle lasts a long time when you're using just a drop). Seeing this thread got me wondering if applying a lube was necessary - looks like it is.

it is the one way bearing i had a os 30 that did that once a year i changed the bearing it is fine.
