I have an XTM Mammoth ST with a .28 Axial, I purchased it on ebay and was suppose to be ready to race. Had to replace fuel tank, i replaced all needle valves and replaced all o-rings in carburater. I thought it was sucking air so i put some sealant on carburater where it goes into engine. Today i got it to idle with smoke and it run great plenty of smoke. It runs about 200 degrees but it won't start back up until it cools off. Can anyone help me.
Thanks

Sounds like it has lost it's pinch/compression.
Don't waste another dime on that engine...

Ok, would you get a piston and sleeve or what motor would you suggest as a better replacement? They really got me on this sale Thanks

It all depends on the condition of the engine bearings and crank. A piston and sleeve with a rod attached is 50ish on E-Bay.
A brand new Axial can be found for 100 bucks....
I do not have much love for this brand. Most run hotter than necessary to make power resulting in early failure.
I have seen 1 or 2 that screamed at 220 degrees like a good engine should. But the fact remains their quality control is horrible and their customer service is worse.
I have had 4 of them.
To be honest with you I'd buy a XTM 24.7 engine that came in your truck originally before I bought another Axial. You can find those on E-Bay for under 100 bucks.

I Have a AXIAL in my Robitronic Protos and its a great engine.

They can't be all that bad if Losi chooses to put them in there racing team Buggies (Robitronic)

Solly, once you get your hands on a quality engine you'll realize what a P.O.S. Axial's are. For a few bucks more you can get the LRP and it will run circles around an Axial.
I can't afford new high dollar engines myself so I half to watch for deals on good used engines. I know a bunch of Pro Drivers who change engine sponsors like they change underwear. A good quality engine such as Picco, Trinity, GRP, Nova will run make you Axial .28 look like a snail, and use 50 % less fuel doing it. They pay for themselves in maintenance and fuel costs over time.
I had a 109 dollar Picco .21 3 port and an Axial .28 at the same time.
In the same truggy the .21 killed the Axial from bottom to top. It tuned better, ran cooler and stronger for the same price. Picco makes fantastic engines.
I'm not trying to be a peepee or trashtalk your stuff, just trying to enlighten you guys from years of experience wasting money on budget mills.

get it repinched at RayARacing.com Hes a great guy to deal with and Axial Engines Are the Best KEEP IT or buy another Axial .28 1S 1 Spec Green My Fav or get the Axial .28rr 1 Spec Racing Engine I've had both Last a long long time and Have Great Power when Repinched I reccomend this engine to any 1 I know

i've decided to buy a new motor, i looked up the parts and its cost about the same to get a new one. whats the diffrence in the Axial .28 green and .28 gray engine? I'm still gona check out the XTM 24.7 engine before buying.

Just the color on the Axials, no difference. The HPI F4.6 is a great dependable engine that can be found under 100 bucks.
I broke in my buddies on his new Savage. 10 gallons of O'Donnell's 30% later it still runs great, NOTHING has been changed in it amazingly.
The only downside to the 24.7 is the al. carb. You have to keep the temps below 250F or it will vapor lock and be a pain to start until it cools off.
Another excellent choice for 150 is the SH .28 Pro 6 port. Great engine. It's almost identical to the LRP .28

i purchased an xtm 24.7 big block new for 82 dollars. hopefully that will solve all my problems and i'll be able to resell it and try to get some of my money back. thanks for all the advice

You'll enjoy enjoy that engine. It is easy to tune, has a lot of torque runs reliably.
Run a good 30% fuel with MC-59 plugs in it.

i think i need to seal my engine... got it out 2dayt and it didnt run to well so I'm not sure but yea

Solly, no hijacking!
J/K
First and foremost change the glpw plug when you run into tuning issues. Can't tell you how many times I have screwed up a good tune when all I needed was a new plug.

its a new plug... it wouldnt start and realised it was my plug... DER should know that by now

my new motor should be here by saturday the xtm 24,7 i'll let ya'll know how it goes.

xtm 24.7 came in

my 24.7 xtm came in today i mounted it and the first cranke it fired up. I suppose the axial .28 was worn out cause the xtm 24.7 had twice the power.
now my clutch has started slipping and the two speed clutch came apart. so i suppose i'll buy more parts and fix that but i'm sure glad the motor issue is solved. thanks all

Glad to hear it. take your time repairing that XTM truck. They are not the most reliable r/c's out there.

i know what you mean i've sunk allot of money in this thing and i'm determined to get it in good shape i would like to start racing it if i ever get the bugs workd out. i've got a friend thats sponsored by xray he says hes go one for sale so thinking of checking it out.

X-rays are top notch quality, and they are PROUD of their parts. Just make sure your bud hooks you up on replacement parts. Sponsored drivers usually get about a 50% discount.

ok, thanks for the advice i'll ask him about that.
