Are they really as much fun as they look? If I don't have any tracks near me (actually theres one right next to my indoor track, but I never see it layed out) would they still be fun in parkinglots n stuff? I was going to get a on-road a while back, and then make it a drifter, but I just need some feedback from you on/off road guys and just on road guys if you would take like a NTC3 over a REVO or something. I have no experience with on-road cars PERIOD (besides radioshack, tyco type), so your opinions would really help me out. My new car will be between a on-road car and a MT. Right now I have an MBX-5, so I wouldn't mind getting something different. thanks in advance.

IMHO, on-road cars are fun but get boring relatively fast....I guess I'm more a off-road redneck RC'er, lol. :hammer: I used to have a OFNA LD3, but got bored w/ it fast...

I have a Savage and an RS4 18ss and I think the touring cars are a lot of fun. When compared to a truck the cars accelerate harder, go faster, turn harder, and have better brakes. The selection of bodies you can use is huge and they can be made to look very realistic. I am about a build a competition only R40 and I am selling my parking lot racer for a good price. See here:

sweetness. I was going to get a 18ss before. I just wish that there was more on-road racing here because I LOVE racing. The problem is I'm not old enough to drive (1:1) so I never get to go driving or racing. I might just buy one and see if I like it, and if I do ill keep it. But if i don't, Ill sell it and hopefully still have enough for a MT. I want Mel*E*Mel's so bad :hammer: ..

Where do you guys usually drive yours?

Check the 18ss for sale thread I linked to. If you just want to try your hand at on-road then buying mine at less than half the original cost might be a smart move.

I started with an MT and I just had to get an on-road right after that and started bashing in parking lots. I think they are as much fun as a off-road. You can go faster in on-road because u have no obstacle to slow u down. And racing is a little more competitive IMO.

rossb... would you trade for a hopped up rc10gt? or are you just looking for cash? cuz I would need to sell my gt first in order to get another car. Another big decision is if I should get electric or nitro. On a day like today (i don't know if you had the same weather as me, but it was dark and grey) I don't feel like bringing out the fuel and starting a ruckus. I'd rather keep it on the low down. Electric is a great thing to have on one of these days.

I started with an on-road (NTC3) and have always loved it. Even when I was just running in the park, I realized that speed is what got me hooked. That's probably why I went with a buggy instead of an MT. MT's are great for bashing around. Some people race them but that's not my "cup of tea." I guess that's why my brother's Savage SS stays in the garage most of the time.

I would recomend the NTC3 IF you think you would have an interest in racing. If you just plan to bash, then the RS4-3SS with the 18 would be fine. They're both shaft driven cars but the NTC3 is designed more towards the potential racer.

If you want to turn it into a drifter, you don't need to do more than get rubber tires and throw some pvc rings on it. Also, any low end mill would be fine. There's no need to get the "best" .12 mill available.

I would DEFINITALLY want to race. I need to find some tracks near me that are specifically on-road (I know there are some). Ill most likely get a NTC3 for racing/bashing and they arent that expensive (sorry rossb). I dont need the latest and greatest (would like to get rescent tho) and I don't need a lot of hoppups (yet). All I want to do is drive for fun most of the time, and when I get a chance, race it. I bet the NTC3 will suit me well. (hey diver... if your bro wants to sell that savage lmk lol)

I have a Savage and a Rs4 3 also, and the Rs4 is just as much fun, if not more to bash with, I think. They handle to tight, and just a blast to drive. Plus the accileration is just crazy!! The only think that puts a damper on it for me is that I live on a gravel road and have to pack up all my poop and drive to tar, where my savage I can throw out the door and go. But as far as driving, there TONS of fun. (I dont race either)

ohhh sweet. They are sounding better already! The best part is, all you have to do is find a not so busy parkinglot, and drive! The only place i can drive my cars right now are infront of my house (not too bad), and at the 2 schools i live near. That would be sweet to get some "road rails" and make my own track! http://roaddome.com/

EDIT: scratch that.... those are WAY too expensive...

I have raced my RS4 18ss against TC3s at Floyd Bennet Field and Edison. From what I have seen while racing I think that the RS4 is more durable. Just this week I saw a TC3 get destroyed from a minor crash. You will have to put a new OS .18 CV-R (and maybe new gearing) in the TC3 if you want to accelerate as hard and go as fast as an RS4 18ss in a straight line.

You should know better than to say somthing like that ross. You know that it's not straight line performance that he's after if he wants to race. Also, many of the guys that go to Floyd are just bashers so that's not a place to compare cars. Edison, well I dunno ... that place put a bad taste in my mouth.

You need to go to a technical track and you'll see where your car shines and has short comings. Jackson is the place for that. Even prospeed makes you have to drive your car instead of relying on speed.

You'll see what I mean when you get your R40. It's much different than the RS4, especially when coupled to a race worthy engine.

My track wouldn't allow 18's anyway. Its pretty technical. Ill definitally get a better engine later, right now I have to figure out how to drive it first lol.

My comment was based on his post that he wanted to run it around in parking lots for fun most of the time. In those situations HP rules.

i ran the NTC3 with the stock RB V12 motor. this power setup was perfect for the motor. the power was able to be planted perfectly. i raced it for 1/2 of a season and i was very satisfied. i went to the serpent 710 when my driving skills improved for very aggressive lines. the NTC3 doesn't need many hopups. the only hop-ups needed are "the fix" and finding the right gearing for the track. once you feel you are ready for an upgrade, you can explore plenty of options such as serpent, mugen, kyosho RRR-WCE.

keep in mind that straight line speed mean nothing. i personally have acheived better laptimes with my xray T1FK05 than my serpent 710. find the car that suits your driving style and skill. you can easily find a used NTC3 on the internet. if you are really set on getting the NTC3, PM diver. i think is willing to sell his NTC3. it's currently collecting dust on the shelf and begging to be run. i was rebuilt over the winter and it's in good shape.

Will do... Ericke1 told me he had a Tamiya and a Kyosho, both brand new that he would sell me. not sure how much, or which car it is, but Ill clear it up with him if you guys think i would be better suited with one of them, or a ntc3.
