My ZX11 PROJECT!

Well I got this bike off craigslist where everything is like new... I rode it there in 1st and second and it was all good and fast. I get it home get it into 3rd and 4th and they are just junked. 5th and 6th are fine. SO I call shops and find out its cheaper to find a good used motor. So I found one in a frame that had ben wrecked in the front and get it off the guy for 300 bucks Now Me and my buddy are in the process of swapping the motors...

sweet deal man. Although I am enjoying the 650R I have, I think I would like to have something a bit more peppy. The 650R is a great bike but...the ZX line-up is really starting to look good! LOL Although I know I dont need the ZX11...LOL

Motor swaps can be a pain but you seem like you know what your doing. I just passed one up on Craigslist last fall I wish I had bought it. Polish the frame and it will look better.

Congrats H8. The big 11 was groundbreaking in it's day, turned the motorcycling world on it's ear in much the same way the first GSXR did in the 80's. Although dated, it's still a very capable platform, and they make a great sport tourer and 2 up mount with few mods.

Looks like your well on your way to getting the motor/tranny swap done Brandon, Hope it all works and you don't have any bolts left over when your finished, LOL!!!!

Ya this thing is to much for me. I would like to trade it for something smaller once I get it finished but it is REALLY fast. doesn't corner very well though, its to heavy. I do know it will do 110 in 2nd gear though lol. My dream bike is a GSXR 750.

Well I got to looking down the intake with a flashlight and I see green liquid and rust.... I'm like oh great just my luck. BUT, it was some weird oil... I said screw it put it in and see if she runs. I sprayed carb cleaner down in there and we got it put in about 11:30 last night. Cranked over about 30 times, i'm thinking ya its not going to run then it fired and OMG! It smoked like crazy, filled the garage with smoke lol. It's from the oil that was sitting in the cylinders. This motor is about twice as responsive as my other one. The throttle response is just ridiculous. Havent ridden it yet though. i want to try to clean up and at least make everything the same color before I put it on the road lol.

AWESOME!! It's always a good feeling when all your hard work pays off huh? So I if I read right, your plan is to flip this bike, and maybe a couple more in the hopes of picking up a later model gixxer?

What pipe is on it? A d&d will sound awesome. I can't wait to start my cafe project it killing me. Keep the pics coming and keep us posted.

Well I would love to flip it and get a later model gsxr 750 but I donno if that that will happen. The exhaust thats on it sounds like a drag bike lol. Its all Rigged on there though. Its the stock pipe (dual) they cut one side off and plated it. (not very well I might add) And put a Rev Tech Muffler made by Super trapp on there. Its SO loud but sounds pretty cool actually. I found a full Vance & Hines exhaust for like 400 bucks for it brand new so I might go that route.

Yeah, inline fours sound good with open systems on 'em. Not a huge Supertrapp fan, but the V&H systems are decent, especially for older bikes like that. This would have been back in the day when V&H was the sh*t too. I have a friend who has an '05 gixxer 750 with the Akra Ti system on it, I can tell his bike from anyone else in town from a half mile away. Thing sounds EVIL.

Ya everyone that hears my bike says it sounds hella mean lol. I have a couple oil leaks to take care of on the swapped motor but otherwise it seems good.

Sweet bike you took on a load there with the swap. I had a 97 ZX11 for a while. I got rid of it because I like going fast and so did it. I saw where you said it would do 110 in second gear that is true but it will also do 100 in first gear =p
My ZX11 is probably the fastest thing I have been on so far. But they are not for corners like you said these were more of a Sport/Touring bike. I used to ride with a Busa and GXR 900 I would scrape my pegs a lot chasing them. That will turn your stomach. But in a straight line I would get both of them. Here is a video of me squidding out! Go ahead talk **** about my gear.

I am 300lbs so I never had to worry about the front end coming up on me. Anyways nice ride man seeing your post just made me miss the old rocket.

Well I got tired of working on mechanical stuff so I figured I would make it look a little better. I used flat on the frame, footpegs, etc and gloss on the body pieces. I only put that one side fairng on to see how it looks cause I dont have the other side yet. I also have another tank I am working on thats in better shape. But that one works for now.
