Hey pros, I'm a dumb newby and I've ran 6 tanks through my new savage xl. I'm clueless about tuning it. When i start it it wont idle but wants to take off, tutch the break and it stalls. mid and high speed have not been touched but my low speed and idel needel are off. also the spring that hooks up to the throttle is off and i dont know were to hook it back up any picks would help thanks. dirty.

well as for the stalling, take off the air filter and check the slide opening. if its 1-2mm open then its good, but what i do is: 1st, turn on the rx and your tx, KEEP THE MOTOR OFF!, next take off the air filter and apply full brake, 3rd: holding the brake adjust the slide opening to about 1-2mm. Then let off the brake and put baxk on your air filter, run the motor a little bit an check it out, see how it does.. Nitro

thankx nitro, I'm really close, i tried to ajust the throttle linkage but when i let off the brake it opens up again, so how do you ajust the slide opening? and were does my throttle spring conect to? i hooked it to the back of my high speed needle, dont know were the factory placing goes, it fell off when i hit a tree.

Dirty.

Before adjusting the idle you need to back the Rx trim tab down to zero.....ALL the way off. Then set the idle with the brake applied.

yea no problem and for the return spring, one end is on the carb and the other is on the servo horn

Huh? If it's on the servo horn, it would move with the carb linkage and provide no return pull.

It goes from the ball link on the carb to the HSN housing. It needs to PULL the carb closed if the servo fails.

thanks for the replys. I think it might be a cluch or trany problem? Its not that it wont idle properly, it actually wants to take off. And i also noticed it wont go into seckond gear. gonna go to the store that sold it to me today and start it for them, see what he says.

thankx, Dirty.

If it wants to take off at idle, there are a few basics to check:

1. The idle is high enough to engage the clutch shoes.
2. The clutch spring (or springs) is broken or weak.
3. The CB bearing is bad.

oh, i was thinking it would pull the servo horn back to the original setting so my mistake, sorry dude.
