well i was getting onto my third tank when i notice when i pulled on the pullstart my wheels ingage, did i put the clutch in worng, becuase i thouught the clutch bell does not move until you push on the throttle, but right when i start up the car my cutchbell, spur wheel, and the wheels start to spin really fast, i know it cannot be the idle thing becuaue it happens before i even start up the car, its got to be the clutch becuase when i was putting the spings that go in the shoes were sticking out a bit and that could not be right?? anyhelp please!!

yes, its the clutch shoes, the clutch could be put together wrong or the spring could be stretched depending on what clutch shoes u have. the clutch shoes engage once the engine gets running at a certain RPM? lmk if I'm wrong.

Your clutch bell is too tight. The clutch bell should spin free after you have tightened down the screw at the end of the crankshaft.
The clutch bell should have some play vertically on the crankshaft. Take out a washer but not one that supports your bearing. Your bearings needs a washer on the open side from the clutch bell in supporting the load acting upon it.

OHH SNAP!!!

Pissant, there are clutch installation directions all over the net.

but i can't find any please help, i just dont get how the springs go around the nut, it does not make sense!!

well i am going to try and install the shoes backwards, someone on the savagecentral form said i could do it and it is easier!!

well i am so sick of this, i can't do it, the springs are killing me nothing fits man iam going to scream, hobbygaytownusa here i come, you know what hpbbytown gots the worset service, for all you people that work at hobbytown iam sorry but you guys are very rude self center people that do not care for the customer, today i ask them if they would please put the shoes on and they say i got no time today kid we have customers here, i was like what the hell i jsut spent about $500 bucks on you terds the last few days, man one these days those people are going to be sorry of disrespecting me!!! :loser:

Aside from the stupidity being bred here and elsewhere in the Savage section with respect to your issues...what part of installing the shoes is difficult for you? Perhaps we can talk you through the process.

the problem i am having is i can't get the spring to stay on the nut and everytime i push the spring down onto the nut the back end of the spring sticks out of the shoe. has anyone else used this kit, maybe i am shimming it wrong, but it is impossible to get the spring to hook upto the nut and that is my problem!!

Sounds like you're putting the short end of the spring on the wrong side of the nut. Or in other words, you're not putting it together right. Take a picture, that way we can get a better idea of what the problem is.

man i would love ot gave you pics, but my camera suxs at taking small pics so there is no way to show you, what do you mean putting the short end of the spring on the worng side of the nut??

There's a short end, a coil and a long curved in to a spring, right? Are you trying to put the short end under the shoe that it's installed on, or under the next shoe? I just don't see how the spring will stick out of the shoe when it's installed correctly.

The other pix you posted looked fine.

That is his original picture of his install and man does that clutch not look installed right. Looks off to me. Actually looks like way too much friggin play in there. Two things as error says you need to make sure you put the short end of the clutch spring on the clutch nut. Secondly since the savage clutch nut is kind of a bitch to install a three shoe setup on which I am going to assume you are using. I had to take a small flat blade screwdriver and really push down on the clutch spring hard on the end that is going on the clutch nut. I first installed it and didn't do it enough to make sure that the clutch spring gets in the groove of the clutch nut and stay's there. Just because you successfully made it on the clutch nut itself does not mean you are home free. You will have to muscle it a little bit.

Either someting is binding and not letting the shoes come all the way in, or the springs are not installed correctly. Like NNF said, the short side of the spring HAS to be fully in the nut groove. When installed right, the ends of the shoes should have a good ammount of tension, and should rest on the pivot side of the trailing shoe. If they don't, something is hosed.

its all good guys, thanks for all your help, i took it to a different hobbytown today and they got the shoes on in 20 min, i am really happy, i just started running my truck around a bit, still breaking it in, hopoe to be done tom so i can start bashing!!
