is that normal for a vspec or should i richen her up abit?

as long as you have a nice trail of blue smoke coming out of it, it's really not a big deal. If you're worried about it you could richen it up a touch, it just won't be as fast as it could be.

250 is normal for a Nitro Engine, usually 270+ is the limit for most .21 and up engines. You are fine as long as you can see smoke at WOT.

so what, i raced mine all day today at 230-250. tore a** up in buggy class.

just remeber that the 220 max temp is a guide line, dependig on the track the time of year and day, and weather will depend on which side of that temp it will stay, my engies run from anywere from 100cent through to 140cent,

I try to keep mine under 250 when it runs totally dry as my guideline....but that usually puts me in the 210-235 range for normal running....

I shoot for 230 or less while driving. But I read a magazine test of the v-spec engine, and when they were running the dyno test, they were keeping the temp. at 250 on 30% fuel. But that is probably because they were shooting for absolute maximum horsepower, which will likely cost you in the engine longevity department.

For a cheapo engine I would say squeeze every last drop out of it that you can. But for an engine like the V-spec that is almost three bills, and has almost three horsepower, I would say conservative settings would be wise. That is, unless you are a factory driver, that gets your engines for free.

i like the new ofna .27 engine, 3.1 hp 140 bux, a def upgrade for me (from the .25 that is)

Tune for performance, double check with temp gun.
exactly... But, i usually go for around 220... That temp range seems to have the best results and it doesn't hurt the engine.

EDIT: oops this is buggyracer28 speaking lol

With my Novarossi NS12S3, she doesn't wake up till about 240-253. With my Mugen X12, she hums along at 230-250.

I could go lower in temps but then they start performing like pigs in the mud. Yeah, I would save the engine a bit but when racing, I'm looking for performance. As long as the engine doesn't get out of hand with temps, I don't worry. Also need to check your gear ratio since an overgeared car will work harder.

But it overheats at 254?? :D

I tune till I get good solid performance, then use the guage to make sure I am in the right range. My 24.7 likes 200-210 for some reason. Any hotter and it runs like ass.

Funny how each engine will react and perform differently, even those of the same make and model. A friend of mine at the LHS had the same engine and his liked to perform below 235ish. That's why I say to tune for performance and double check for temp.

Both sl0eg1n and I tune the same way. We tune by ear, sight and sometimes by smell (high temps have a distinct smell to the cooling head).
