My tmaxx 3.3 blows glowplugs every tank. No joke, I cannot run two tanks on the same glowplug. This has to be something mechanical with the piston hitting the glowplug or something right? Do I need to shim it? I am running the following. HSN:3.5 turns out(.5 in from factory) LSN: Flush with sides(Stock setting) I've tried tuning it but it just revs up and stalls if I go much further in than .5 in (3.5 out) on the HSN.

Sounds like your rich to me. The piston isn't hittin' the plug. Check the condition of your hsn. It's weird that when you try to lean it, it revs and dies. Adjust in small increments. May be an air leak, too. How's it run?

Copied from the sticky in the General Nitro Forum:

What you need to know about glow plugs:

Glow plugs are very important to the performance of your engine. You can also read your glow plugs to determine if you are running too rich or too lean.

A brand new glow plug has a wire or filament that is shiny. If after running the wire is still shiny and the bottom of the plug is wet, then you are running too rich. You are probably getting only 85% of the maximum engine power.

If the wire turns starts to turn gray, and the bottom of the filament is slightly wet, then you are almost near the peak engine power.

Once you have a gray wire, and the bottom of the plug is dry, you are at 100% maximum power.

Once the glow plug wire starts to distort, you have exceeded the maximum power and are running too lean. Adjust to a slightly rich setting.

Hot plugs are used for hot summer days, while cold plugs are designed for cold "winter" days.

Where are the possible areas for an air leak? It runs great if I apply half throttle. Most of the time when I apply full throttle it stalls. I can gradually apply the throttle to get to top speed, which isn't slow, I think it hits about 30mph(Edit: I think its a little faster than that!). I know its running rich. But typically how long does it take a good glowplug to blow if you're running rich? Its also impossible to tune because any leaner and it just stalls and stutters more when I apply full throttle.

around the carb seat the fuel tank the backplate on the engine the front bearing the exhaust manifold, It could be that by running too rich the excess fuel is being compress into the glow plug and snapping the filiment what do your plugs lo0k like when they foul?

the plugs are always sort of wet with fuel. I know its rich, but how rich is 3.5 turns out on HSN? What are your settings? I believe I have an airleak. I installed a new carb when I got my second engine, I simply slid it on, was I supposed to apply some sort of gasket or glue?

I would have used some permatex or the like that being said a airleak usually causes a lean condition the settings are different for every motor and weather condition try leaning the hsn and watch your temps

Like I've said, leaning my HSN just makes it run worse. the richer I go actually makes it run better until it becomes completely overwhelmed with fuel. lol I guess its an air leak so guess I'll go on ebay and look for some permatex and re-install my carb and see what happens.

just go to the auto parts store and get a tube of blue permatex. Its like 2 bucks You can search for leaks with a solution of really soapy water and blow air thru the tube in the exhuast if you see bubbles theres your leak

an hour is a bit much move in 1/16th at a time do a couple high speed runs then adjust again try to have a half tank at all times when adjusting

1/16th at a time about the amount of time a hit of crack lasts!!!lol
my bad:third_place:

It still just stalls when I apply more than 30-60% throttle. I've searched for leaks..found none. I live in Houston, the temperature at this time of year is around 70-80F. Can anyone recommend mixture settings to me? My low speed needle is very sensitive to adjustment, and my highspeed doesn't want to go in any further than 3.5 out. It idles good, but when I apply the gas it just hangs up.

go back to factory needle settings and start from fresh.
also when u lean it out try and take it for a run even if it means that u have to apply the throttle slowly as it might get better the further you go
remember as long as theres smoke its not to lean

I have went back to factory settings countless times. Every time I end up in the same spot 3.5 out and factory low speed. I guess I'll keep checking for air leaks. Wish I would have bought a 3-cell lipo and a brushless slayer now. lol
