Thought this may be helpful to some.
My shifting problem was due to the second gear centrifugal pawl not working. Took the trans, out and apart yesterday and found the problem on my Sav SS.
Looked like a machining boo boo. The set screw shaft was was making contact with the pawl that slings out @ Higher RPM's and causing it to bind. Looked like the threads were machined too deep. I ground down the shaft part of the set screw a little and that fixed my problem.
Checked the gears and drive-cups while I had it tore down and they looked like new with a Gal of fuel run throught it so far.
Been using the wax type bicycle chain lube on my drive cups . Works great so far in my case.---->
