I wanted to know what shock oil you guys run.The stuff in the shocks now seems pretty thin. I have lots of silicone stuff in different weights but want to know what would be good for bashing/racing. Also I want to know what weight fluid I should run in my diffs. I have some 5k and some 7k on hand and was wondering if that would be good enough. I'm thinking 7k up front and 5k out back but what about the center? One last thing is I will be needing new servos too. Will the Hitec 645MG be good enough for steering?? I had one in my Savage but didn't like how slow it was so I swapped it for a 925mg.I'd like to get another 925mg but my budget is kinda stretched at the moment and the 645mg is cheaper. Anybody have any suggestions for a faster servo for around the same price as the 645mg??

Congrats on the new ride! I can remember when mine looked like that! As for the shock oil I changed mine to 40wt and now I wish I would have stayed with the stock oil. For the diffs I have 5k, 7k, 1k, and would recommed this to anybody running this buggy. The 645 will have enough power to turn the wheels the only thing is that its not as fast as I like my steering. Unless you plan on racing the 645 will be perfect (only my opinion others use this servo and love it) Check out the jr 650 same power a little faster about the same $$.

When starting this thing for the first time on that starter box your going to have to loosted the glow plug because the starter box itsn't the best. Once you get it running tighten the plug after you run it for a tank you shouldn't have any problems. The pipe is very hard to keep on because there is no lip for the gasket to sit on I use hose clamps to hold mine on.

I had the 645 mg in my PCR PRO but I swapped it out for the JR 650 for a little more aggressiveness in turning. The 645 should do you fine. If you just bash that will work out for you great. Nice ride by the way!!

Thats a great buggy rex. I hate how slow the 645 is, plus they are unreliable IMO. So I just got a Hitec 5625 for my storm, it is 130 oz/.14 sec at 6 v, pretty good and only about $55 on Tower. For less money check out the regular 625.

For break in, heat the engine with a heat gun or hairdryer to 180 F+, it expands the cylinder and sleeve, making it much easier to start, and its better for the engine too.

Thanks for the tips guys!!! I didn't like how slow the 645 was either! Like I said I had it in my Savage before and changed it.I know what you mean about them being unreliable too scottm. I think I've toasted 2 of them with my Savage. I was thinking about the 5625mg for steering and the 625mg for throttle/brake so I think I'm gonna run this combo for the servos!
I forgot how tight the 8port motors are too!!! I'm actually dreading the break in. I had an 8port in my Savage too.The break in wasn't bad it was just hard on the hands trying to get her started the first few times. I'm going to seal up the carb and blackplate before I break it in. I remember having lots of air leaks with the last one. One good thing though is that I have the old 8port still! So I have extra parts and 2 extra pullstarts if I need them!

i was wondering if you could run a standard servo for throttle brake or if you needed somthing a little beefier.

I put 40wt in my shocks. Still running what ever came stock in my diffs, but that is about to change soon. I have a 645 for my steering servo, and like it. Never had a JR 650, but I had a JR digi that was slow as hell. It must have been ment for throttle. Maybe a plane, I don't know.

Oh yeah, nice toy!

I started the break in yesterday. The book says to heat cycle the engine four times for 3-5 minutes each time which worked out to be about 2 tanks of fuel. Then it say to drive it slowly but it doesn't specify how long to I should do this for?? I'm guessing at another 2-3 tanks but my other 8port was different and didn't say anything about heat cycling?? What do I do?? Also I changed the shock fluid to 40wt in back and 30wt up front and added a few spacers and now the suspension feels much better and doesn't sag at all.I've got it raised up kinda high right now but I'll adjust it later so that the a-arms are level.I can't wait to drive this thing!!! I'm hoping to finish break in today and get it tuned and get it dirty!! I've still got a few things to work on but I think it's about ready for a good bash session! I added o-rings to all the drive cups to eliminate the dogbones moving around. How come only the front has CVD's?? The rest of the buggy has standard dogbones but the front has CVD's? I though that was wierd! But it's about ready anyway!!!

Of what I got out of that thread, I'll get untill next winter on my VZB, and if that is true it should have 6-8 gallons threw it by then. That's a pretty good lifespan for a VZB that has been put through the wrenchs.

Great article scottm!! With my last 8port I got about 7-8 gallons through it before the P/S was toast so I guess thats pretty good for this engine right? I finished up the break in today but I don't have access to a heat gun so after it was warmed up I just kept it warm.I let it cool to about 150 between tanks and just kept at it for another 6 tanks. After the first 3 I began to lean it down and tune it a bit while still being easy on the motor.Tank 6 I started fine tuning it and let her rip on tanks 7 and 8.She screams pretty good!!! I still have do a little fine tuning on the low end but the temps were around 250-260 after several high speed runs!!! I put a few scratch's on it today so it no longer has that new car look/feel but it was fun!!!

Hey man!! That is one mighty fine ride you got there kinda looks familiar..
I like the lid - that is one of the better desings for the stock IMO. Still having fun with the RS4 ordered a bunch of aluminum parts for it

Take care
Bruce
