My mini e revo only receives a small power boost between 2s and 3s!

I wanted more power from my mini e revo so I went from a 2200 mah 2s 35c to a 3s 1300 25c, but recieved very little power boost, is this normal?
 
Yes it is if you haven't changed the pinion. I had two pinions that came with mine. Even the one with the lower tooth count was a bit too high for mine on 3s and caused it too overheat. YMMV
 
ok, I do get wobble in the rear and it clicks, even when shimmed

for some reason the smaller pinion keeps coming loose

The pinion grub screw needs a bit of thread lock on it my experience. My go to for this is the blue Loc-Tite 242 stick.
 
It does stay on now, but then the motor comes loose....
 
Check if your wheels/tires are balanced. That can cause serious vibrations.
Also loctite any screws that go into metal
Edit: what batteries are you using? I can’t find any batteries with 35C that’d fit in a merv
