Yes, you have to take off the motor to replace/fix the spring on the clutch. Dont worry its easy, just remove the 4 screws at the bottom of the chassis that hold down your motor, seperate the exhaust pipe from the motor (or just undo the set screw from the hanger) and undo the ez start wire from the shock tower and it should come loose from the truck.
Remove the E clip from the clutch bell ( small gear under the carb) and remove the clutch bell. you should see 2 or 3 clutch pads depending on what type of flywheel you have got. In my case, it was just a matter of wrapping the spring back around the clutch shoes and hooking it back together again.
When you put your motor back into your truck, be sure to check your gear mesh between your spur gear and the clutch bell or you will strip the spur and create more problems for yourself!! Read up on setting spur gear mesh on this forum, I just snug down the 4 screws that hold down the motor, push the motor and clutch bell tight against the spur and then back it off just a hair ( like a fraction of a millimeter) and then tighten the motor down again ( be sure to use just a small dab of loctite on the screws ), then check the mesh by sliding a piece of copy paper between the clutch bell and the spur gear. You should see little folds in the paper where the gear teeth bit into it, if the paper rips when you pull it out, the mesh is too tight, no indentations in the paper, its too loose.
As for your slipper clutch, tighten it down all the way and back it off 1/4 of a turn.
Hope this helps you out, it can be a pain at first, but trust me, I did it and have learned alot from doing it myself...and reading everything that I can on this forum and others.
