I just finished breaking in the TMAXX 2.5 and these are my remarks:

What I like!!:

1.) The EZ start is really cool it is so fast to start and your time is longer playing with instead of tinkering with irt
2.) The handling of it really nice. The wide arms make taking turns easy. Of course full throttle turns will make it flip on its lid. I know this cuz I did it three times! still fun.
3.) The suspension is really soft and easily takes the little curb jumps and little air jumps I did. I am sure with the jumps I plan on doing I will probably upgrade to some better shocks.
4.) The power of the 2.5 is pretty impressive. Once I got the tune down to science I was able to oper her up and get her to really show the power. The 2 speed is pretty cool as well. Once it kicks in it really goes. Once again after I get bored I will more than likely change it out to a sirio 18 since it will still work with the EZ start. .
5.) The durablilty of the Tmaxx is still new to me as I have not really done some really good off roading. But as far as I can tell it is ok. I will definitley upgrade to some aluminum braces and some RPM A-arms.
6.) The Brakes

What I do not like!!

1.) The EZ start is cool but if you flood it it is pretty right to get the fuel line off and clear it out. Still do able though.
2.) THe Exhaust outlet position is HORRIBLE! When I pull her into check on it the right rear tire is covered in oil that had exited the exhaust stinger. That is bummer.
3.) The steering of the Tmaxx leaves a lot to be desired as it a really weak servo. I will definitely change that out for a hitec 645 along with the servo saver.
4.) THe Reverse Module sucks! I found the Tmaxx in NEUTRAL since it wouldn't go into Forward for awhile. Maybe someone can help me on that one.

Since you left this thread pretty much blank, I'm guessing that you either did not like the truck....or hit the submit key a little too quickly.

Sorry bout that Sky DAMN TAB KEY made me submit. I edited the post Hope it is more to your liking!!:jester:

Much better. Now to answer some of the things you didn't like:
1. Flooding is indeed really easy with the EZ start system. There really isn't an easy answer except to use very short bursts when priming or dump the EZ Start and go with a pull start.
2. You will find that that exhaust position is fairly common to most RC vehicles. I recommend getting a GS Racing exhaust deflector. It is a small silicone tube that you put on the stinger of the pipe and it diverts the exhaust gases and oils away from the truck. They are fairly inexpensive.
3. Good move on the steering servo upgrade. Nothing more to add here. Well maybe one small suggestion. You could go with the 645 or get its digital big brother the 5645. Both produce plenty of torque, but the digital produces 160 oz-in, and that is massive.
4. And here I thought you didn't want to get rid of the reverse module :D Something you can do is adjust the linkage and servo trim to ensure that the servo is properly shifting the reverse module for you. Sometimes all it takes is a little length adjustment on the linkage to make things work better.

SKY I was looking to get a deflector but wasn't sure of what I could go with. I heard that OFNA had some. As far as the Reverse module .......AAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRGGGGGGGHHHHHHH!!!!!
Was that enough? That reverse module is pretty cool IF it works flawlessly. Having it stuck in neutral or even reverse is a pain the ass.

Also I will probably start a new thread on this and it will consist of the NEW Powerstroke dampers from Pro-Line

Do you know of any that are made for the tmaxx Set up? ones that will deflect to the bottom like the Monster GT?

I use these very same deflectors on my MTs and have very little to no problem with gunk on my wheels.

When shifting from forward or reverse, make sure your truck is at a dead stop and the idle has fallen all the way down. After the idle is completele settled, then shift. Also, you've gotta do this when your truck is level...if it's pointing either up or down it wont shift most of the time, it'll get stuck in that gear. If you have your truck set to idle high you'll also have trouble shifting gears.
The biggest thing for me is just waiting for the truck to come to a dead stop, 95% of the time if I wait for the idle to settle it'll shift no problem.

Assuming your idle speed is set correctly.

You know what the Truck seems to be idling a bit high since it is always rolling forward. I guess this would help to adjust:opps: Let me try this first. !!!

wierd....I have a older maxx and it shifts no problem, I even shift on the go but I wait till' it stops to actually go. But now I'm having trouble with the TRX pro. I wanna get an Epic .18 to put in it. They are about as cheap as an OS cv-rx but a big block. PLUS all you have to do to make it a straight drop-in is cut the shaft shorter.

so for any mill I want to put in I have to cut the shaft like the NTC3?

Hey,

Well, THe Stock Steering servo and the Stock steering and servo system sucks. The design and turning radius of the Maxx itself is what makes it superior to other designs IMHO. I'm running the Hitec 5645 (digital Metal Geared) and it kicks much ass. Keep in mind that running Digital servos with dry cell AA batteries is unaccepatble and you'll need a good rechargeable pack made up @ your LHS or other place online. The regular Hitec 645 is great from what I've experienced compared to the stock servo but the 5645 ROCKS. I'll be adding the full Servo saver and steering system from RPM, Proline or UE this week.

Peace

30%NitroBoy...where did you find that it is unacceptable to run digital servos with dry cell batteries?

I have been running digital servos in my rides since I came across them two years ago. The only rechargeable batteries in my kit are the one in my radio and the brand new hump-pack I put in my new buggy. Guess, what? No problems with the servos or the batteries to date (and that is even after submarining a few times in really deep puddles.)

Just curious as to whether this is fact or opinion.

Ok I just found a glitch! It happened twice. I lost control of the TMAXX for no reason. I put in reverse and suddenly the truck didn't respond to my command. It started to accelerate for no reason. Luckily I was at curb and it just kept doing that. I am confused as my receiver pack is fully charged. My Transmitter is also fully charged. I am kind of worried here. There is not failsafe on this rig yet and no throttle return spring. Any suggestions besides the failsafe to help me out? Haas anyone experienced this? Yeah this seems like just like babble!LOL

Unless you have somehow managed to cross wire your servos (not likely) the reverse servo and the throttle servo should be two unrelated items. Do you have a digital camera? If so, a pic or two of your set-up might help us figure out what is wrong with it.

Aside from some kind of wiring issue, if you live near high power lines or any other electromagnetic device (like a cell tower)...you may get interference with your RC.

Well,

Let me be blunty honest bro...if you don't have the simple throttle return "spring mod" done yet then not many here and aborad are going to feel sorry for ya if you total your front end. A Failsafe is nice but the spring mod is NECESSARY...period. I wouldn't run any rc without it.

As for your problem, It's hard to diagnose as you need to elaborate more. Your tranny might need to be adjusted as I've had plenty of problems in the past with my tranny not going right into reverse. It usually needs to be fine tuned for proper second gear shifting @ WOT too. So you put your truck into reverse...it didn't go into reverse and then it started to accelerate without you hitting the throttle thinking it was in reverse??

Hey SkyMaxx - WEll first of all..let me say that I don't spread opinion like gospel like some that I've seen abroad..lol. I like to give others real info from personal experience with my cars and that of my many bashing buds.

Well, Even the Servo companies like Hitec and Futaba will reco against running dry cells with even 1 digital servo in your car or truck. It's a fact that Digital servos drain ALLOT more power then standard servos and I personally wouldn't run dry cells and especially with more then 1 digi servo. As your probably know, Digi servos are constantly trying to "center" themselves. Right now I'm just running the HS- 5645 in my Maxx for steering and I might stick with the Stock traxxas throttle/break and Tranny shift servo. I'll correct myself bro and say that IMHO you should run a proper rechargable pack in your Maxx, Savage or other Car/Truck if your running 1 digi servo but it's not a FACT that you can't run dry cells. If your running 2 or more Digi servos in your car/Truck then you absolutely need a good pack or even better....a dedicated pack for your servos like the Racers I know.

Peace

You know what SKY . I did have to reverse My reverse servo since it wouldn't shift back......wait a min. Maybe that was my problem to begin with. Let me get back to you on that one SKY. My next problem is either I need stronger glasses or the damn IDLe Set Screw is freaking hiding. I went to go adjust earlier and I couldn't find the damn thing!

30%NitroBoy...no problems here. Just trying to figure out if something has changed in the digital servo world.

This forum is all about sharing our experiences with those that need them. Even I benefit more often than not from browsing this site. Tons of good information from good people.

Keep the information coming...

I found IT!!!:ahh: :hehe: :hehe: NO guys I knew where that was.. I know you guys were thinking that. I would be. Anyways The damn ISS was right under the hose so I couldn't get a great view of it. I will try and adjust that tomorrow.
