i got my savage out today to see if i could grt it tuned again. lately it has been running hot. so i got ready, started the engine and it slowly started to accelerate. so i tried ajusting my idol trim, but it didnt work. then i adjusted the idol screw that didnt work. all the time the engine is screaming. so i richened low end and hi end as fast as possible to no avail. at this point i was panicing because it was smoking like a chimney. i pinched the gas line and waited for it to cool. After cooling i took engine apart noticing the gear that attaches to the clutch bell gear was melted. other than that i noticed nothing wrong inside the engine. i still got pinch but i was just wondering if anyone else has seen this.

any help would be appreciated, bigsavage

What kind of fuel are you using and which way did you turn the idle and HSN and LSN?
To richen you loosen and tighten to lean(lefty loose, righty tight)
Idol-To make lower idle, turn counter clockwise(left)
IF you need to shut off your savage really fast-plug the exhaust.

Sometimes the stock carb on the savage gets stuck WOT or HalfOpenThrottle. Try making sure the carb isnt getting stuck open.

This is gonna sound stupid, but did you turn the receiver on?

SHK, this is the first I've heard about the 21BB carb sticking, but I'll trust ya on it. And even though we had the shut down conversation in another thread (and I pinch my line to shut down), in a panic situation, always plug the exhaust tip to shut it down. I screwed up once with my heli and didn't change the model in the radio, and fired up that big X-Cell gas with the wrong program. The throttle was about 30% on the heli at 0% on the radio. As soon as it fired up it went to 30% and most of the controls were reversed on that program, so all I could do was hold the rotor head, yank the fuel line and pray that it died before it got loose. That thing would have destroyed itself, and maybe even killed me in the process. The crappy thing is, I couldn't reach the exhaust tip, and I ended up smoking the clutch.

Another thing I used to do when flying, always check the controls before you fire up the engine. On a truck this includes the throttle, making sure it goes from closed to wot, steering in the correct direction, and the reverse if your truck has it. Rocks jamming the linkages, bad servos, a damaged Rx, or dead batteries can all speel desaster.

Yes Error, two guys at our track can varify that. That makes three so far. I've also heard of the problem on the savage boards on some EZ board pos. Maybe it is the humidity sticking? Well whatever it is it was a tuning problem for me. Once fuel washed through the carb tho, and ARO, its all better now.

Another problem with the 21BB carb is that when manufactured and assembled, small flecks of rubber got in under the needles. You might want to remove the HSN needled and check to make sure that the needle is not partially blocked casuing a lean condition.

My carb also got stuck in WOT the other day when I was running in my street. SCARY poop man! I managed to turn it around and ran it into my foot, the jolt sorted the sticking carb out. Does a T-Maxx carb not fit on this engine?

after reading all replies i am thankful that so many have been able to assist. this morning i disassembled completly cleaned and reassembled . just waitng for the plastic gear that the teeth got melted. i think i may need new clutch shoes too they looked worn.
again thanx for all the help. oh and the receiver was on the whole situation was baffleing i'll remember it forever
