Is there any mileage in using this when assembling the CVDs, or will it just act like a magnet to dirt and grit, effectively turning into grinding paste and destroying the CVJ?

just keep em clean..I never grease mine....just clean em and spray lithium grease then wipe it down....the XB8 has a different type of shaft though, more like a real universal.....but it should work the same....

I use a drying silicon spray lube.
Clean any universals after each use and re-coat.
Grease works well but does attract dirt.

sure you can use grease. but look around for universal boots. they slide over the universal or cvd joint and seal the grease in and dirt out. kinda like shock boots do. it will extend the life of the joints when used properly, but if you dont regularly clean them out and put fresh grease in. the little bit of dirt that does get in, will act like a lapping compound and wear them out faster.

Understood. I was hoping to use some Fastrax 1/8 CVD boots in conjunction with the joint grease, but no-one seems to have them in stock here in the UK. If all else fails I will continue to use PTFE dry film spray.

In the past, I have used shrink tubing as boots. Just need to make sure they are trimmed properly so they don't bind and use a zip tie on the ends.

i picked up some traxxas boots, when i get around to trying them, ill let ya know how they work on 1/8 uni's. they look the right size though. i think they are for the revo.
