I purchased what I thought was a pretty good starter box. It's carries the mugen name is purple in color. It currently has two 6-cell 7.2 volt 1500 mah "sport pak" batteries. It runs off two motors. Someone was going around saying that one high-torque motor is better than two belt-driven together.

Does anyone have this starter box? what are my options for upgrading it? can I go to one high-torque motor? shoud I? would better batteries help?

It works OK, but I'm looking to get a new, competition-grade engine (maybe an RB). The way it currently is, it does stall on engines with a lot of resistance in the piston/sleeve area.

Thanks,
Rob

WELL you can go get to aftermarket hi-torqe motors - 550 sized (like for rc cars) but the price of those will put near the price of a new single 12v motor box..

i found the dual motors to be weaker (ofna models atleast) when compared to the direct drive huge 12v single motor

are u letting it spin up first before u let it touch the flywheel ?

I have the same box Rob and I run mine off a 12v gel cel battery. Lasts longer and gives it a little more ooomph. Strong enough to turn my C5 over. You should be able to pick one up at your LHS. I just made a little extension running out of the box to connect to the battery since it is too big to fit in the box.

slothy, yeah, it spins plenty before it hits the fly wheel. I think it's the battery situation. The fleabay auction was a little fuzzy on what brand batts came with it... figures... I think I'll take FRB's advice and pick up a 12v gel cel at the LHS.

Thanks guys,
Rob
