what pistons are you using mike? for a rough track i use a piston with a larger hole then pick my oil accordingly. this reduces pack and encourages the suspension to work at speed. my xray right now i have 1.5mm pistons (largest) and 40wt front 30wt rear. and it seems to do very well in our whoops section.

also run about 2-3* camber up front. camber isnt just used for adjusting contact patch, a little bit will also help stablize the car in the rough. i would also reduce your toe out to zero and look for more steering in other ways.

what oils are you running? for a really rough track i would try 5k, 5k, 2-3k front, center, rear. this will also make the car more stable.
I'm running 5k-3k-1k front center rear, using 1.5mm pistons, have used 1.9 singles as well and stil seems to do the same with oil from 20 through to 100 weight, reason for the lack of camber in the front is trying to get traction on a track that is so dusty you can't see the cars, to much camber and it just doesn't turn in, hence the toe out as well, not to mention i actually like a twichy little beast, comes from my on roading i quess.
thought maybe i was getting some binding in the rear but all checks out ok, then i thought maybe chassis slaping which is a possible i quess but not really wearing the chassis down, definatley hitting the ground after jumps a bit but not badly.
I'm a little lost at this stage as to what the hell is going on

maybe try a little thicker oil in the rear shocks. if its bouncing a lot, it might just be a lack of dampening.

is it only the rear thats out of control, or is the entire buggy bouncing all over?

the 1.9 singles and 1.5's while they may feel the same. have different pack rates. in your hand they will feel the same, but on the track they handle differently in the jumps and ruts.

yeah i know, a 1.9 hole has more surface than 2X1.5 holes, have tried every oil from 100 down to 15 and just can't seem to get it right, damn thing was running bloody well for a while, track has always been a poop hole, so nothing has changed there, would it be possible that the shock cylinders have worn out of round and is by passing the holes in high impact bumps ????

what exactly is the car doing? bouncing off the big jumps, or just unsettled through ruts and bumps? a better description of the problem would help.

also check for bent shock shafts. pull them out and roll them on the table looking for light under them as they roll. whens the last time you rebuilt with new O-rings? i kinda doubt that the bodies are worn, they are hardcoated aluminum, and only being rubbed by delrin/plastic. i would belive that your pistons are worn out though. you can measure them with calipers to be sure, then compare to new a pistons diameter.

if your car was working before, and now its not. its not a setup issue, there is something wrong with the car, whether its a tweeked part, or a worn out part. something on the car changed.

yeah that was sort of what i thought as well, so i rebuilt them, and still does it.
what the car does
hits hard bumps and flips over backside first
rocks from side to side over series bumps
is hard to get the car to jump level, always wants to throw the back up in the air
think part of the problem is the track is just so damn bumpy

sounds like a lack of dampening in the rear. go up in fluid WT. either that or your springs are missmatched front to rear. try out the kyosho blues.

Kyosho dont fit the mbx5 prospecs
have a different diameter shock to all the rest, but you may be right about the under dampened

Mike, mine was doing the same thing last summer. I didn't bother trying to fix it. When you figure it out, will you let us know? So if it happens again to me I'll have something to try. thanks.

Also what does running thicker fluid in the front do? I've always run thickest fluid in the center (5k/7k/1k or now 5K/7k/2k).

give you more pull round the corner under power

And no probs when i work it out ill let you know :)

Yep! No shelf queen here. I give it hell as often as possible, but it's still not enough! LOL!!!!!!!

Here is a pic with the lid off.

Mine has yet to be started...
The hitec servo is too big and i have no brakes. The brake collar gets stuck on the servo. I'm going to get it running over spring break no matter what...
