I read and heard that the amount of space you actually leave between the muffler inlet and the header makes a difference in power. How does that actually work?Mine is pretty close to the header. I have a RTR3 I want the best placement. :wedgie:
 
If I am not mistaken the closer the more low end and the farther the more high end. I wouldnt go any more than 1 1/2 inches away though.
 
I believe Chris has it right. It's the same principal as tuned pipe design. Long, thin pipes are great for high end speed. Short, fat pipes are good for low end punch. So the longer you make the exhaust, the faster the car. Well, that's the basic idea anyway. I'm sure there's more to it than that...
 
what is the best set up for a rtr3? any tips? Thanks christian and candyman. My muffler is the AE truck muffler..part number 7730:transform
 
Sorry but I have to disagree with both Christian and Candyman. The longer the pipe and header combo the more torque you will get, the shorter it is the more top end you will get.

Candyman, the shape of the pipe, the steepness of the divergent cone with also help in deciding low end or high, not the actual length of the pipe.

Hey NCNITRO, Thanks a lot for the great website. It actually shows the pipe I was talking to you about in a different thread.
I want to get the most potential out of this pipe and my HPI engines! What DO YOU think I can do to get my max potenital use of this COMBO? :batman:
 
It is the Team Associated pipe that is blue... The one used on the RC10GT
 
would the cvec pipe do any good, it sounds really like a pos? let me know if anyone has it, and what performance stuff it has, i was thinking of getting one, but now i dont think so....
 
Hey Zoomer! I read up on that brand. If it the dual stinger type it really has no use. Don't get it!!!:ban: :ban: :ban:
 
I've got the dual stinger CVEC pipe,its not the one on the web site though,mines got a steeper slope for more low end!You can see it in my gallery,stock it was alright ,but I modified it by drilling the baffle and dremeling the existing perferated holes around the baffle?If that makes any since to you?It made a huge differance!!I'm running the HPI RS4 3ss with the 12R engine that pumps out 1.25hp at high rpm,so I added the fat steep sloped pipe to confinsate for a sluggish low end! I'm very pleased with its performance,plus I'm one of the loudest at the track:lick:
