Mud and water or no?

Quick poll.


Do you think scalers should be run through the water and mud?

Part of me says YES! its a trail truck but the other part says NO WAY!

Sure you can waterproof the electronics but i know after running my wk in the mud, the bearings were nice and gritty. I am sure water seeps into the axles as well and then its just waiting to fail.

They are also very expensive. Its hard to justify sending a 1K rig into the slop IMO.


What do you think?

I would not simply because I would not want to spend the time maintaining it after every run.

Its not a simple yes or no imo. It depends on the rig. A "scaler" doesn't mean its a trail truck. It depends on if its a "scale" trail truck or not. If so, then yes, I think it should be ran through scale environments. But if its a scaler thats base on a DD street truck/maybe part time off roader, then no, I wouldnt. I never ran my Silverado build through nasty stuff because it was more of a street based scaler. But most of my others, I have, but not really "over the top" mud/water, even though I make them water proof, Id rather not find out for sure lol.

I think the poll needs another option of "depends on the rig".

I say no unless you want to tear it down after each run to dry it all out and grease every thing. Some light stuff that won't get up in every thing would be fine.

I drive both of mine in mud and water and I have to admit that when I'm done I hose them off and put them on the shelf. I spray wd40 before every run amd that the only maintenance they get. The way I see it is that bearings are cheap and easy to repalce....My scx is over a year old, I broke it completly down for cleaning once and still running the stock bearing.

yep, wd40 and pam work great. The mud slides right off.

what about the motor? I know they make the wraps but i just can't see dropping a puller into the louisiana slop.


I don't think i have the room to waterproof my stuff anyway but it was just a thought.

then there is the transmission. I would hate to get crap in a $100 tranny

I vote yes. I wouldn't due it a lot due to the maintenance afterward,but you gotta do it sometimes :yes:

After getting my truck together, there is no way in heck i would put it in the water or mud. haha. just too many nooks and crannies
