Well I just finished installed the MP Servo Saver. For an easy install this thing was beating me seneseless. Most of it came down to the fact that I was trying to install this at like 1AM. lol.

I was having a slight binding issue with the nut hitting the drive cup. I ended up using a 4x10 screw.

The semi-finished results. Now I just need to readjust my end points.

While doing this mod I installed a Hitec 645MG servo. I am also going to be installing a Trinity 6v hump pack and mod in a charge cord so I don't have to take everything apart to recharge the battery. I'll post some pics when i'm done.

Mine is on the way, there are just two things to complain about the stock savage, the servo saver and the battery-receiver box

hehe Been there done that. I have the same set-up with the Hitec 645MG. It's alot better then the servo savers that connect directly to the servo.

Thats good to hear. I'm hoping to test it out tomorrow. 57 degrees and mostly sunny for tomorrow.

I did this mod a couple months ago... Definetly make sure you shim it properly or it will have more play than the stock set up, I didnt shim it enough and I had a great laft hand turning radius and a really crappy right one. but after I fixed that this mod was worth every penny...

The left side doesn't appear to need at shimming. However the right side (the servo saver side) did need some on the top. I used one of the shims from my Ofna clutch bell kit. It was a little big as far as the diameter goes but it did the trick.

Edit: The second picture kind of shows the post sticking out just a fuzz. By using the shim I was able to make up the different and have it flush with the post.

I just ordered the parts to do this mod along with a new airtronics 94358z servo to replace my hitec 645mg with. Over at savage-central tbill has a fantastic pictoral on doing this mod which is what I followed.

I did this mod while building my SS. I used both Ofna towers and replaced the stock bar with an aluminum one set on top of the arms. After shimming and a little dremel work on the arms so they would not hit the diff cup, it turns great in both directions. I am also using an airtronics 94358Z servo.

question, why are you guys referring to this as a mod? Arent you just upgrading the existing servo saver? Wouldnt this be considered an upgrade not a mod?

Is that a buggy you installed this in? It looks beefy as hell. Would you recommend this be done to a racing setup or just for bashing?

The servo saver is meant for the Ofna Monster Pirate. This is going into an HPI Savage. It elimates the crappy HPI servo saver that is connected directly to the servo. It looks almost identical to the setup that its my Storm.

Just a quick note to anyone doing the MP steering mod. Glow plug gaskets work well in a pinch if you don't have a clutch bell shim kit.:classic:

I ordered everything to do this mod & a hitec 645mg today, going by the link in Skymaxx's thread.... just wondering who did theirs this way too?? step 11 says instead of the stock screws to use a nut and bolt... what size did you use? length?? washers?? any help is appreciated...
thanks

JD1168, the bolt in that write-up was 3mm x 20mm and had a 3mm nylon lock nut on it. There was also a 3mm washer used on the end by the nut. I didn't catch that when I reviewed it. I will edit the write-up to fix it. Thanks for pointing it out.

Later....:mex:
