I am wondering what Motorglider you guys would buy.

I have a Firebird Commander and a Piper Cub + a nice Pitts but am looking for some nice good performance glider. Since I have nobody to tow me I'd be interested in something that has a motor but also picks up a nice thermal and can go for a while. Should look somewhat neat too.
Budget about $250 - 300. Any tips would be appreciated.

I used to have a ASK21 glider in Germany that used to be brought to altitude with a "rubber rope" which you would hook the plane into and let go... is something like that still available, or is anyone using something like it? It was like a rubber line that expanded over maybe 100m (300 feet) and would create some nice altitude.

Thanks!

Motor gliders would be cool. I don't personally have one, but I did dabble in sailplanes for a bit. Hobby Lobby has some Graupner planes that look nice. Something like the Easy Glider may just fit the bill. Doesn't look to pricey either.

You can still get regular gliders and get a Hi Start (that big Wile E Coyote rubber band thing, of which I still have one) or another big thing are the discus launch gliders. Basically you just grab them by the wingtip and fling the hell out of them to get them airborne. Then it's all about nature...

Don't have one yet...I have a Firebird Commander however....I am still a lousy pilot and that ones is a breeze to fly....my kids make me look bad.

I have always wanted a Glider though....let us know what you decide on....you might motivate me .
