Well I had (still have) a T-maxx, and decided to go try something else. I was looking at the savage thinking iabout getting one, becuase I hear there pretty good.
Now my questions are pretty basic, is the Savage a tough truck, even in its stock form?
What about aftermarket hop-ups?
And what should be done to make the truck even tougher?

Not looking to go 80mph with it, id use it for offroading bashing.

Any help appricated!

I've had my savage for a while and el pirata owned it before me and it survived. That should speak for itself, LOL. The savage is a great bashing truck, really strong. Which one are you looking at?

I dunno I would say if you get the SS or the .25 it is already pretty strong. I have a basically stock SS and it has had some pretty nasty crashes and I have yet to break anything major on it. With my 2.5 T-maxx I broke both front lower arms the first day I had it out. I am not bashing the T-maxx at all I still have mine and like it but the savage is quite a bit more durable especially the newer kits. If I were you I would pick up a nice motor saver 3 stage air filter. For $20 it is the best investment you can make to keep you’re your engine running well. Also if your truck comes with the crappy tank (the one with the fuel pick up in the front and the primer) I would swap it out for the primerless one. Other things could be a high torque steering servo something over 150 oz/in would be best, and better shocks, better clutch (if you get the SS, mine came with a 2 shoe that really doesn’t grip too well).

The main weak point I think is the steering. You will definetely need a high torque servo for that. Other people have said that the diffs are weak and break easy. I have not had problems with my diffs but to make sure this doesn't happen to you you could do the 4-Spider mod. Other than that the savage is one tough truck. It has plenty of after market support)if you look at my sig i have got a few hop-ups on mine) After 2 gallons of fuel I have broken on suspension are and one screw. I say get the SS version because you get to build it, but you will love the 25 aswell.

Yea I'm going to get the RTR 25, Even though it looks like fun to build the SS, Dont really have time too.
Hopefully within the next 2 weeks ill pick one up.
Thanks for all your help guys

Are you implying that I tend to break things? Man Sky and I suggest you join and I get woodie to manually validate your membership because you were having e-mail problems and now you're busting my chops.

Back to the question at hand, the regular savage .21 gen 1 gave me absolutely no broblems that were not fixed in the later generation trucks. My only complaint would be I found the suspension a little wimpy for me.

Tough truck out of the box? That is the question, right?

This thing is hands down the toughest truck out of the box...at least it is a hell of a lot tougher stock than any T-Maxx I have seen...including some that have a ton of hop ups. You will not be disappointed.

If you want a list of things to start modifying, I suggest reviewing the lead thread in this section of the site. Those three mods are great.

Aside from that, you can find aftermarket support for just about every piece on the truck.

hey El, everyone knows what you put your vehicles through, there's plenty of proof, lol. Anyway you could go to your lhs or check on e-bay and look into getting some triple rate springs it would help a lot with stiffining the suspension.
