which is more reliable, can take the most abuse, easiest to tune engine, and which is a better bang for the buck?

This is going to result in My Savage is better or vice versa. I have played with both and I like the MGT when it comes to wrenching. Easier for me to get to things, The Savage, I am a little leary of as to get to the diffs all you need to do is take off the skid plate. Both are very durable trucks and the MGT isnot as fast as the savage but still a contender. Remember that the MGT is not offered in Kit form so you will need to do some checking up around the truck prior to runnig.IMO of course. The Savage does come in both. I would get the kit.

Hope this helped.

Jon

savage is for bashing or racing its a strong truck i have 3 my self now the mgt i think its a raceer with a couple of mods you'll be in busness there both good trucks and to me the even out about the same. wat ever you buy kit rtr your still going to mod it and change it

I like the savage but the MGT is good also. Both quality trucks.

I've had my Savage for about a year now and the MGT for a few months and personally think you can't go wrong with either but if your looking for a basher (depending how hard u bash) then the Savage is the way to go. i found it to be much tougher then the MGT is out of the box but with some changes on the MGT(rpm a arms, new shocks, alum. knuckles etc.) and i have yet to break anything on my MGT:) but still not as tough as my Savage even with the upgrades.
as for engines i found them both very ez to tune(ae eng.21-2.1hp)(Hpi eng.25=2.5hp)
Best bang for the buck i would have to agree with Jon2 and say go with the Savage kit if u alrdy have the radio or get the kit and buy a descent radio right off the bat, if u can afford it. IMO if u plan on racing ur ride, then go with the MGT!! with my Savage i get alot of rollover but my MGT stays on all fours majority of the time, much better handling ride and alot easier to work on:)

I have both trucks and I tend to be more gentle with the MGT when bashing :) Not that it's weak but personally, the savage looks and feels more durable when it comes to high jumps/flips etc. The MGT is a better racer than the savage, easy to work on (accessible parts) but with a few mods, the savage can be a decent racer as well. IMO Savage first then MGT. Cuz if you're a true racer, I'm sure you would consider something else other than both of these two. but if you race more than bash, and you have to have one of these 2, then the MGT is the way to go i think.

yup savage first then mgt for durability ..i guess its the way the plastic components of savage makes it tougher its like rubber mgts plastic is brittle anyway i like both of them mgt is defenitely a racer and savage is for hard bashing

MGT if you're racing. Plus, the MGT really outshines the Savage when it comes to wrenching. The MGT is very easy to work on, everything is right there.

Imo

A friend and I got trucks in the same week, he got the Savage and I got the MGT.. We broke ours in our own ways and set up our own seperately.... He put an exhaust and changed gearing, I changed gearing and shocks.... Not only did I drive circles around him, but I was getting way more air on jumps during bashing.... He almost always had tuning issues (everyones is different in a sense) and had hard time starting it a good bit of the time... I tuned mine once, and never tuned it more then a little 1/8th turn to keep up with weather. Where as he was tuning it every run and alot of the time before the end of a tank hes pushing easy over 300 degrees where I'm constant 240.... IMO his is a pain to work on, but just how I feel on basically stock comparison!! Keep bashing!! Again, just IMO

My addition to this post is that the MGT is easier to work on IMO then the Savage, The MGT has the same set up as the TMAXX almost. BUT I also know that one tuner is never the same as the next. My Brother and I got our MGT's relatively the same time and guess what mine ran better and broke in better. His eventually made it there after some help from me. BUT both trucks are the same.

Some will say the MGT is weak and others will say it is a tough truck. Your expereince will determine that.

As an MGT owner, and the fact that you posted this in the MGT thread...

MGT.

And I haven't even cranked it yet. hahahaha

can't go wrong with either one.

if you will race and a little bashing = MGT
if just for bashing and maybe a little racing = Savage (takes more beating)

savage the engine is easy to tune, nice truck, way more durable, and an available 3 speed!!!!!!!

IMO........I know I am going to get bashed for this but I have owned both and you couldnt give me a savage now. From the get go nothing but problems. It is about as durable as an RC car from wal-mart. You name it I have broke it. Constantly working on it and tuning it is a bear......... extremely unrelieable! Maybe I got a bad one but it was a true miserable experience owning that hunk of junk and not to mention the $$$$ I put into it. Anyway stay away from the Savage....IMO......not HPI but just the savage. My on road touring car is the R40 and it has been a tough car. I have hit the wall a few times but it just wont break. Anyway whatever you do good luck. I now own a MGT and love it. Again, good luck.

Scott, sorry to hear about your unpleasant experience with the Savage...I think in general Savages are still the truck for durability. I like both as i said earlier, and the only thing I don't like ab the savage that I like ab the MGT is the simplicity of the designs...MGT is much easier to work on.
