It opens this far (see image below), but without help it won't go any further.

I ripped it apart and discovered this little chip in it, no idea how it got there. Am I going to need an entirely new carb, or just a valve assembly kit?

I have no idea if the inside of the carb cylinder walls (for lack of better words) are scratched, but from eye balling it, doesn't appear to be.

Makes me sad cause it was my first time driving my truck (first time ever driving ANY nitro R/C) and then it broke.

I hope this thread is okay here, thought it would catch more replies.

I have to ask but did you have the idle screw all the way in when you ripped it apart? Seen that happen...not from experience mind you:whistle:

Nope never touched that one, just the top adjustment screw near the fuel inlet.

Have you tried to rotate the slide before? The only reason I have had Slide stick is because the idle set screw is adjusted wrong.

never tried to rotate the slide either

My friend hit a tree with it but not very hard, I doubt that's what caused the chip though.

I just took a very fine file and carefully filed around the chip so it felt smooth, the spring is now bringing the valve back in on it's own and the valve opens up fully with no sticking. I just wonder if that little chip is going to affect performance, will find out tomorrow when I take it out... a bit to late to start it up tonight.

Also the flathead screw on the carb that holds the spring; if it's tigtened all the way the valve won't move at all. Is there supposed to be a washer on it? If so, I'm missing it.

I believe that is the idle screw I was talking about. I am pretty sure that it contributed to it being cause to your little chip.

This is the black screw I'm talking about, same one you're on about?

Did you find where the metal chip? If it's in your crankcase it could cause bigger problems if you don't get it out.

Thats not the idle screw.
The idle screw is the screw right under the HSN(The Big screw)..I have never seen the screw you circled in the pic..Its going right in to the carb barrel....I would put a washer on it and seal it with RVT..

Yeah,I would seriouslly tear that engine apart and make sure there's nothing floating in it. Just remeber,When you tear it apart,Seal the carb neck,And backplate, with ...RTV....

Okay, I sat down with my dad and took the carb apart and tried to tune it for more than an hour, and 2 tanks worth of fuel. He said the carb needs to be replaced for sure, not just the valve assembly. He's a licensed mechanic so he knows better than me.

Oh well, they are pretty cheap on eBay, no big deal :).

Edit:

Oh and it does look like it's that one fine adjustment screw that was hitting the valve which caused it to chip, it lines up perfectly.

yeah done this one before it is the idle screw that is hitting the carb. It happens when you turn the idle in when you dont have the throttle open.ITS happen to me prob 3 times LoL

I've got an OS carb I can send ya if you're interested!

Well thanks to markallen for the carb, my truck is up and running again I need to take it somewhere in the open with nobody around because the neighbors didn't like me trying to tune it at 7 PM. But hey, it moves, and with proper tuning it will move even faster :D

I'll try to get a video of it sometime :)

I've also updated my MGT blog at seriosbrad.com
