My buddy is replacing his MGT's engine with a Diablo .28 and said I could have his .21 if it'll fit my truck. This would be nice since it barely has a gallon through it. I was wondering if it will drop in or if it is too big? I have the 2.5 in there now and would like to have more power but I don't want to destroy my drive train either. I mainly run on sand (if that matters) since I live in florida and that's about all there is. They put out 2.1 HP not too much more than some of the .18s so 'm thinking it'd be OK if it will fit. Even if I need a conversion kit they seem to be pretty cheap on ebay. I guess I would need chassis, braces, motor mount, and CVDs. Am I missing anything? I'd like to do this if I can get it for aout the same price as a new Diablo .18 or OS .18 since that is what I was looking to replace the 2.5 with. All help will be greatly apreciated! Thanks in advance....Later

The block is too big for it. The only way to use that engine is to get a 21 conversion for it. Dynamite makes one. There are others but nothing else comes to mind.

Most 21 conversions will come with the extended Cvd's and braces.. Your Clutch assembly won't fir. you will need to get a whole new 1/8th scale set up for it. Try the Werks clutch or the Fioroni turbo sliding clutch.

Do you think it'll shred my tranny gears and diffs or will it be Ok if it's not abused too much?

Well your tranny was made for a 15 size engine. I know that when I had my Maxx I dropped in the Sirio 23 and it handled it fine. I recommend upgrading your diffs personally to aluminum ones as well as your tranny. I know that engine is really punchy. I had the MGT.

I know the tranny and diff gears are big $$$ so I was hoping to get away with out changing them since I don't want to put that much money into it. I don't race just bash a little on the sand and run a few jumps. Since the .21 isn't as powerful as a lot of big blocks I think it might handle it as long as I take it easy. Am I fooling myself or does this sound plausible?

I think you are ok. Just don't mash the gears all the time. easy on the throttle. Make sure you have GREASED your diffs and tranny.Gear mesh is a must to check.

IF, You decide to get upgraded diffs, The Unlimited Engineering 7.5 ones are awesome, But as you know if you are a hop up guy, UE Is a very pricey company. Those are the best diffs that are around I believe. But you could always buy a set of aluminum diff cases, and Robison racing diff gears. Also CVD's would be a must, The stock T-Maxx ones would break eventually, And ruin your day, Hopefully It wouldnt be a race day! Another thing, Do yourself a little favor and get a aluminum spur gear, I was racing, Doing well, And then all of a sudden boom, My spur tore out, and this was with the stock 2.5 engine! Rediculous, So you can pick one of those up at about 25 bucks. Good luck on your project.

Not to hijack the thread, but what kind of lube do you use in the tranny? I heard to use a "dry lube" but what is that? Any specific brands or names?

MNG- That Racers Edge kit would do the job, However, IMO it looks kinda weak, Thats just my opinion though dude, I'm not sure if it would be strong or what. On the lube subject, All you would need for a tmaxx diff is MOLLY Grease I believe. If you have a closed diff like the buggys do, You would be using either grease or oil. It goes in like 3000,5000,7000 wt. For a stock maxx, Just use the Molly Grease, It should do fine.

I read a review where the guy tried bending it and flexing with his hands but said he couldn't get it to. He also said it was alot stronger than others he'd seen so I guess I'm good to go.

MNG...DO NOT use the racers edge kit if you do a .21 maxx....look for either the dynamite or XTM kit (they are the same thing) the racers edge kit extends the rear skid plate instead of doing it the right way and extending the chassis braces....also the xtm or Dyn kit has a pipe for the .21 and all the cvds you need
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&category=44028&item=5950215171&rd=1 here's one just found but I've seen the XTM kit for around 90 from time to time.......much better than the racers edge...I've done 5 different maxxes over the last few months and this IMO is the best bang for the buck.....

The Dynamite is 149.99 I believe, W/o Engine, But you dont need an engine, It comes with a decent pipe and its a nice looking kit, It also comes with CVDs i believe?

MNG- That one looks pretty nice, Good design and its pretty thick too. You will still need (5) CVD's. 4 for all four tires and 1 for the other under the chassis. It only comes with one in the pic. But that looks pretty good.
