So, I found the Savage X for a really cheap price but it doesn't come with the metal upgrade parts, are these actually worth the extra £30?

i sent hpi a message and asked about them, i told them my savage didnt come with them and i wanted to get them. 3 days later they were setting on my porch. HPI ROCKS!

Very nice. I am glad to hear HPI has good Customer Service.

Also, to the OP, I saw the alloy diffs on the optional parts on the HPI web-site and its $10.00 USD. So now I am thinking that's not what you were talking about because that's only 5 pounds. There are multiple parts that can be upgraded to metal, so you'll need to be more specific.

They are nice to have (the diff cups) but since the savages now come with 4 spider gears, they are not completely needed. I've never had a problem with my diffs as long as they are 4 spider, which all savages are now.

i've shattered 4 spyder diffs before. I run the X SS ones now and haven't had any problems. the shimming makes all the difference

Man you must have some bad luck. I was running a Picco .28 and never had a single problem with my diffs. I didn't even shim them either. I have shattered a pinion gear, but never the spider gears in the diff.

I have never had diffs blow. I think I have had the ring gear get chewed up due to my rear skid coming loose. The new X diffs are pretty nice since they are like the kyosho 1/8 diffs. They are shimmed with great square washers. Helps to keep them from moving much. I have gone through 3 savages..and the only thing I really complained about was my driving.. LOL.

If there is anything to look for in upgrading is to a cage. I bash so I needed the extra protection. The rest IMO is bling.

i was running an OS .30 and it just blew. I took off on pavement and all of the sudden the rear wheels locked up. spidey cracked in halk and chips of metal everywhere.

The only cage worth having is the rage cage. As far as i know they aren't in production anymore tho. I ran the rcs cage and it lasted all of 3 tanks before it was bent beyond recognition.
