has anyone try or has seen anyone put metal flake for real cars in the paint that they use on rc cars or will it work and look good I'm thinking about doing it on my new mini t body when it gets here does anyone know if not i will put up some pic after i do it

thanks scott

have never tried it. you would have to use verry fine. i want to see how this turns out.

The way I attempted it, was by lightly spraying a coat of metalic silver and then apply the color I wanted over it. Worked pretty well.

Why mess with stuff that might not work. Parma carries quite a line of metal flakes in many colors. You do the flakes in a clear coat, then your body color.
Outstanding results.

Does Parma make a clear coat metallic? I didn't think they did, which is why I used the silver metallic.

You get clear, then add their metal flake to it. If you want a burgundy metalflake car, you get the burgundy flakes. Mix it with the clear coat, (keep shaking or swizzling the paint because the flakes will settle) when you have the metallic effect you want, you let it dry and then spray again with burgundy or red. DO NOT add flakes to tinted paint, only in the clear.
You can get flakes in blue, green, pearl, copper, silver,....just about anything you want.

I'm assuming u mean the paint for air brush? I meant the can.

if you want a silver sprinkle then use createx auto air sparkle white i dont have the bottle accessible right now to tell you the series number but its really nice to work with.

I've used metal flake when I paint my bodies. Actaulyl I havnt painted a body that doesn't have it yet..lol.. I use regular automotive paint when I paint my also, because I have alot around and it works awesome!! My last one I did, was a F-250 body in House Of Kolor Candy apple Green Paint with chrome flake. And also had Ghost flames. Looked killer. Depending on what your spraying it with and what tip, I wouldnt worry about it.

Yes, airbrush. I don't use rattle cans on my lids. When you airbrush, you can do any color mixing you want, rather than just what's available in cans.

I tried it will I painted my rc body to match my real car that was in the car show. I don't think it worked to well because when I finally ran the car the paint started to flake and crack. Exp if you tap a barrier. Some guy at my lhs told me auto paint does not like to bend or flex in the amount that a rc cars bodies does. Good luck to you !

That's the problem with off the shelf paints. They are meant to go on metal, and then cure hard. Corvette paints are combined with a flex additive since fiberglass expands and contracts (and shakes) much more than metal. That allows the paint to stretch with the body panels. I've seen a few old Vettes that were repainted without it, and they crack and wrinkle in a few years.
The LHS is the only place I know of where you can get rattle cans that will work on the Lexan bodies.

Why not? I've been doing it for years. It's a trick look when added to a candy or sime transparent paint because you do not just get one shade of flake. What's sitting outside, on the body shows the flake color, the rest show the tint of the paint you used and what coat thet were applied in.

you are talkin automotive paint hees talkin lexan paints. the pigment of the paint will overpower the flake thats why you need to only mix it wiht clear then paint the color.

Um, no. i am talking lexan paint also.

How does the pigment of a transparent color overpower the flake? the paint dries and then is coated to bring out the color. None of this cover the flake...

And to properly do REAL metal flake you trap it between transparent coats, the same way i'm talking about painting a lexan body. Not the cheap easy way of mixing metallic in clear coat.

That's why when you paint something and try to heavy metallic it with metallic mixed in the clearcoat, it comes out looking like a muddy POS. Yet helmet painters and motorcycle painters :) can get a heavy multi layered 10 foot deep looking flake job, with multi colored flake in the same color range using 1 color of flake.

Remember metallic in automotive paint is not the same as metal flake also.

i did the paint job with metalflake last night and it turned out great i use PACTRA RACING FINISH MET. BURGUNDY and i added fine silver metalflake to it I'm putting pics in my gallery i hope you can see the flake when looking at the the body it almost looks like the paint job on ranger bass boat please let me know what you think

thanks

scott
