I'm getting ready to paint up a new body. My problem is that I HATE cutting out air holes in the windows! I like the look of a complete body, but i dont want to chance overheating my mill. Do you think a narrow wire mesh replacing the plastic in the windows will allow enough airflow to keep the engine cool?
 
Cutting the air holes won't affect cooling all that much. So unless your running in 90*+ weather just don't cut the holes. Or even better get a truck body and just cut the hole out of the bed and that will provide plenty of air to the head.
 
I use this hole cutter that I bought for my drill. I'll take a picture of it so you can see what it looks like.
 
the problem with cutting a whole in a truck bed is that I want to put a car body on a truck, so no bed. I really want to put as few holes in it as possible to keep it looking good. its mainly going to be a functional showpiece. somthing that I wont be afraid to go all out with, yet at the same time i want to keep it pristine(ish). so no jumping this lid. my problem with cutting air holes is they are just to brutish for this particular project.

oh. and 90+ heat is pretty common around here in summer.

When I cut holes in my body's sometimes ill take a section of screen ( that you would use in a window ) and glue it on the inside of the body. If you do a good glue job and make your hole perfect it looks really good.

The only problem is all the screens in my house have 2inch holes in them!?

With my electric buggies and M/T s I do exactly what you said. I cut out the windscreen and glue flywire into them. They look really cool and appear to work ok. Not sure its a miracle cure but does work.
With a showpiece/useable truck I'd cut out the side windows only, otherwise the authenticity goes away. It must still work, after all, we all drive around with our windows.
 
on my new project, a nissan skyline r34 gtr vspec 2, I'm going to leave all the windows but cut out the grill on it and place screen backing to it so it looks like a grill and acts like 1. I also sell screen in bright aluminum, brass, charcol, and black. I also make stock air filter screens that, if you arnt going to get a different air filter, gives your ride that extra "pop." However i can't sell anything on here untill i reach the posting level needed.

The 2 areas that will be cut out and replaced with screen, i havent decided to go with the black or the charcol (which has a hint of a greyish blue) yet but id like to hear what color you guys think would look nice on a blue or green car.

I'm thinking a mesh with a tighter weave. somthing that is kindof hard to see through at 6+ feet away. thanks for the help guys. sounds like I'm not the first to want to keep a window in my lid.

1badpappy: id go with the charcoal on the blue, but a dark glossy black with green, depending on the green your gonna use of course.
 
Thanks and i dont have anything with a tighter weave then that and my second job is at a hardware store. I actually can't think of anything with a tighter weave thenb that unless mabey a fabrics store might have something, but it wont be stiff in any way-like a fabric.
